Heading Into The Game

This will be Reno Pond Hockey’s first match of the 2021 fall season. This will also be the first B-League game of the fall season. Reno Pond Hockey played Blue Moon back on July 31st. It was the second of back to back games for Reno Pond Hockey. The big story for Reno Pond Hockey in that game was that they only had five players take the ice. That game ended in a 0-6 loss for Reno Pond Hockey. Reno Pond Hockey is 0-1-0 all time against Blue Moon. Both teams will be trying to start the season off with a win. Both teams will be trying to set the tone for their team this season.

Offense

There isn’t much to talk about since the season hasn’t started yet. Reno Pond Hockey lost their number one center, Chad Payne during the off-season. He put up 19 points last season for Reno Pond Hockey. Dominic Hyer will be returning. This will be his first game back after his summer season ending suspension. He was able to get 12 points with 11 goals last season prior to his suspension. He will be a big help this season.

Blue Moon was able to put up 6 goals in the last game with Reno Pond Hockey. They were only able to score 33 goals last season. Reno Pond Hockey was able to score 51. If Reno Pond Hockey had more players that night, I think it would have been a closer game.

Defense

Reno Pond Hockey had a new goalie this season. Clint McCoy comes to Reno Pond Hockey after Tim Lauder stepped down as the starting goalie. Tim stepped down due to work and availability. Clint comes to Reno Pond Hockey after playing last season in net with the Swamp Donkeys in A-League. The Swamp Donkeys folded after one season. That freed up Clint to come play for Reno Pond Hockey.

Reno Pond Hockey did well on defense in their last game against Blue Moon. Playing with only 5 players was a big task. It was challenging. Keeping them to 6 goals was rewarding. A blowout was a big possibility. I think the defense is owed a lot of credit for not allowing it to be a blow out.
