Up next in the Reno Ice Adult League concept is the Desert Dogs. For this concept the Desert Dogs are partially owned and operated by Bardown Hockey Shop.
For this concept the Desert Dogs play in the Sparks Division of B-League along with Hot Shots, Murder Hornets and Slappy Gilmores.
Desert Dogs Primary Logo
The Desert Dogs primary logo is a coyote head with the team name underneath it. For this concept the team name was originally inspired by the team founders love for Wile E. Coyote. Desert Dog is another name for coyotes. With Nevada being mostly desert the name works really well. The Desert Dogs colors are navy, tan, black and white. Those colors are close to the United States Naval Academy colors. They also have purple, turquoise, cooper, black and off-white as alternate colors. For this concept the primary colors were inspired by Pyramid lake with the tan representing the desert and navy representing the lake. For this concept the alternate colors are inspired by the desert and the Native American tribes that lived in the desert. The Desert Dogs branding was inspired by Looney Tunes, Space Jam, the Arizona Coyotes, Arizona, and Phoenix Roadrunners.
Desert Dogs Secondary Logo
The Desert Dogs secondary logo is just the coyote head taken from the primary logo.
Desert Dogs Alternate Logos
The first logo is the coyote head again but with a white instead of tan outline. This was done for use on things that would be tan like jerseys or t-shirts. The next two logos are inspired by the 2021 Tune Squad logo. The next two logos are the team name in script both with and without the coyote head. The next logo in an oval with the team name. It is inspired by pet dog tags. Then in the second row there are NV (Nevada abbreviation) and Desert Dogs wordmark logos. Then there is a recolored coyote head from the primary logo just for use on the surge jersey. Then there is a tan version of the Burning Man logo that is for their city jersey. The bottom row is logos recolored for their alternate colors.
Desert Dogs Throwback Logos
The first row plus the first five logos on the second row would have been the Desert Dogs original branding. It would have seen use from the late 90’s to mid to late 2000’s. The Wile E. Coyote running in front of Nevada logo would have been the Desert Dogs primary logo during this time. For this concept they would have gotten permission from Warner Bros. to use Wile E. Coyote. The original colors are inspired by the Tune Squad jerseys used in the original Space Jam.
For this concept, permission to use Wile E. Coyote would have ran out in the mid 2000’s. The Desert Dogs would have continued using Wile E. Coyote until Warner Bros. sued them. As a result of this Bardown Hockey Shop would have taken a majority ownership of Desert Dogs. Along with that they would have taken over operations. Finally they would rebrand the Desert Dogs. The coyote howling in front of Nevada would have been the first part of this rebranding. That logo would have been their primary logo. The rest of the rebrand would have been last two logos in that row and the first five logos in the third row.
In the mid 2010’s the Desert Dogs rebranded again. The primary logo for this rebrand would be the paw logo with the team name above it. The remaining logos would have all been part of this rebrand. This branding was trying to change their image from that of a coyote to that of just the paw. The reason for this rebrand was to stand out more in the RIAL. Shortly after the rebrand they added alternate colors to their brand. The last five logos are in those alternate colors.
Desert Dogs Jerseys
The Dark jersey is navy, tan, black, and white On the front is the primary logo. On the shoulders is the NV logo in navy.
The Light jersey is tan, navy and white. On the front is the alternate coyote head with the white outline. On the shoulders is the Desert Dogs 2021 Tune Squad inspired logo. The Light jersey does have a different pattern than the Dark jersey. It is also tan instead of white. Those choices were made to make it stand out from other Light jerseys in this concept series.
The Third jersey is in their alternate colors. The jersey is purple, turquoise, copper, and black. On the front is the script wordmark logo in the alternate colors. On the shoulders are the coyote head and NV wordmark logos in the alternate colors. I knew the Third jersey was probably going to be the only place to use the alternate colors for now so thats what I did.
The City jersey is navy, tan and white. On the front is the Burning Man logo. I decided to make their City jersey about something that happens in the Nevada desert and is a big part of Reno and Northern Nevada culture. Desert Dogs and Burning Man was meant to be.
The Retro jersey is inspired by the original Tune Squad jerseys. The Jersey is in the Desert Dogs original colors. The jersey is white, blue and red. On the front is the Desert Dogs logo inspired by the original Tune Squad logo. They would have worn this jersey in the late 90’s to early 2000’s. It would have been their home jersey. It would not have been their original jersey. The original jersey would have had the same design but with different logos.
The Surge jersey is navy and tan. On the front is the tan coyote head logo made just for this jersey. Again I tried to create something unique and I think I did.
