Reno Pond Hockey was coming off of a 6-2 win against the Grrrowlers. Reno Pond Hockey was coming off of back to back wins. Reno Pond Hockey was 5-3-0. Reno Pond Hockey was in 3rd place in the standings. Mid-Ice Crisis were coming off of a 4-3 win against Dough Boys. Mid-Ice Crisis were on a three game winning streak. Mid-Ice Crisis were 5-3-1. Mid-Ice Crisis were in 2nd place. The all time record heading into the game was 1-1-0. Reno Pond Hockey last played Mid-Ice Crisis on July 2nd, 2022. That game ended in a 3-8 Reno Pond Hockey loss.

Reno Pond Hockey would again score the games opening goal. The goal came around 13 minutes left the first period. Reno Pond Hockey took the puck into the offensive zone. A shot from the far side boards was saved. The rebound was put in the net. The goal was scored by #36 Brandon Angues. It was assisted by #19 Brent Cordell.
Three minutes later Reno Pond Hockey added to their lead. They win an offensive zone faceoff to the right of the goalie. The left winger gets the puck and passes it back to the Right defender. The defender takes a shot which is saved. The rebound comes out in front of the slot. The defender couldn’t find the puck. Reno Pond Hockey put it in the back of the net. The goal was scored by #23 Josh Schaap. It was assisted by #4 Josh Lee and #2 Brad Ferrer.
The first period would end with Reno Pond Hockey holding on to a 2-0 lead. Neither team would score in the second period. Reno Pond Hockey had a 2-0 lead going into the third period.
Two minutes into the second period Reno Pond Hockey would score again. On an offensive zone faceoff to the left of the goalie the puck ends up in the corner. Reno Pond Hockey was able to get control of the puck. From there they were able to get it in front of the net where the left winger was waiting. The left winger then took a shot that ended up in the back of the net. The goal was scored by #2 Brad Ferrer. It was assisted by #36 Brandon Angues and #3 Don Huene.
Around 11 minutes to go in the game, Mid-Ice Crisis scored their only goal of the game. The goal came off of a shot off of a faceoff. As the Mid-Ice Crisis player was taking their shot skating towards the net they tripped over one of the Reno Pond Hockey defenders. The Reno Pond Hockey defender was trying to block the shot. The fall did knock the wind out of the Mid-Ice Crisis player and he was down for a little bit. He did get up and was ok to finish the game.
With just under 9 minutes to go in the game Reno Pond Hockey would get their lead back to three. Reno Pond Hockey won an offensive zone faceoff to the right of the goalie. They get the puck back to the right defender but his shot is blocked. The puck ends up in front of the left defender who misses just wide with his shot. The puck comes all the way up to the blue line where the left wing keeps it in by putting a shot on net. His shot was deflected in front of the net by the center and goes in. The goal was scored by #72 Mitch Costa. It was assisted by #55 Derek Cordell and #2 Brad Ferrer.
The last five or so minutes of the game were kind of crazy. Both teams would get matching roughing penalties. The Reno Pond Hockey player would get an additional 2 minutes for stopping at Mid-Ice Crisis bench and not getting in the box quick enough. He was friends with someone on Mid-Ice Crisis and they were just giving each other a hard time. So Reno Pond Hockey went on the penalty kill. On the next play Reno Pond Hockey gets called for a trip. Mid-Ice Crisis would have a 5 on 3 powerplay for close to two minutes. Mid-Ice Crisis called a timeout before the 5 on 3 started. Reno Pond Hockey didn’t let Mid-Ice Crisis score on the powerplay.
In the last 10 seconds of the game Reno Pond Hockey would score the games final goal. The right winger gets the puck along the boards in defensive zone. He got around one Mid-Ice Crisis player to get the puck out of the zone. He then got around another Mid-Ice Crisis player to create a two man breakaway. He took a shot and scored. He didn’t deke. He didn’t look to pass. He just found the back of the net. The goal was scored by #3 Don Huene. It was unassisted.
The final score was 5-1 Reno Pond Hockey.
It was a strong team win. Reno Pond Hockey brought a lot of energy to the game. They were winning battles for pucks. Getting rebounds. Keeping the puck in the offensive zone. The goaltending from #35 Clint McCoy was spectacular. He deserved the shutout but unfortunately it didn’t happen. It was sweet revenge for the last game. Reno Pond Hockey is now on a three game winning streak. They will be looking to bring this same kind of energy for their next game. They are going to try to go for four in a row to end the regular season.

If Mid-Ice Crisis wins and Reno Pond Hockey loses, Mid-Ice Crisis will get second place. If Mid-Ice Crisis loses in a shootout and Reno Pond Hockey loses in regulation, second place will be tied.
