Reno Ice Adult League Spring 2023 Season Preview

The A-League is set for another exciting season. Last season the regular season title and the final playoff spot came down to the last games of the season. The same five teams will be returning for this season. The A-League did not add or lose any teams this season. The only change happening to the teams is that RT Janitorial is changing its name to Doughboy’s Donuts!. Not to be confused with Doughboys Donuts who are now the Jurassic Pucks in the D-League. I do not know what happened to cause the name change but it does appear that Doughboys Donuts dropped the Jurassic Pucks as a sponsor in favor of sponsoring RT Janitorial. It is also a possibility that the Jurassic Pucks dropped Doughboys Donuts as a sponsor and RT Janitorial picked them up.

A-League starts on Tuesday, March 28th. The first game will be Doughboy’s Donuts! verses the GBB Tooth Fairies.

I think the Great Basin Brewing Tooth Fairies will be back in a position to fight for a playoff spot this season. Last season they came in fourth place during the regular season. They barely got the last playoff spot right at the end of the season. They lost in the semifinals to RT Janitorial. They finished the season with a record of 4-6-0. They will start this on Tuesday, March 28th, against Doughboy’s Donuts! The GBB Tooth Fairies open up the season on March 28th against Doughboy’s Donuts!.

I think the Mustangs will be in the mix for the regular season title and the A-League championship this season. They had a solid season last season. They made it to the championship game. This season they should be eager to get back to the championship. They finished the season with a record of 6-4-0 which tied them for second place. The Reno Gamblers did well last season. They tied for second place only missing out on their third regular season title in a row by one win. Exiting the playoffs in the semifinals for the second season in a row is not what they expected last season. This season they will be looking to get back to being the top team in the A-League. They finished in second place with a record of 6-4-0. The Reno Gablers start the season on April 3rd against the Whiskey Dekes.

RT Janitorial has changed its name to Doughboy’s Donuts!. They will be the defending champions coming into this season. They won the RIAL Winter 2022/23 A-League Championship and the RIAL Winter 2022/23 A-League regular season title. After a close title race, they dominated the playoffs. The expectations for them will be high this season. The teams that were close with them will be eager to take them down every chance they get. I think they will be looking for another regular season title and championship this season. They have the talent to do it and will probably stay in the running for both all season. Whiskey Dekes was in the fight for the last playoff spot all the way up to the end of the regular season. I think Whiskey Dekes and the GBB Tooth Fairies will be battling it out all season to get that last playoff spot. I think they would have to make some major improvements to be one of the top three teams. The came in last place int eh A-League last season with a record of 2-7-1. Last season the B-League title race came down to the very last game of the season. Who was going to get the last playoff spot came down to the wire too. For this season the B-League is expanding from six teams to eight teams. Two teams from the C-League have moved up to the B-League. The Murder Hornets moved up after winning the RIAL Fall 2022 C-League Championship. The Reno Fire Hosers are the other team that moved up. The Reno Fire Hosers will be known as the Reno Fire Hosers B. Following the RIAL Fall 2022 season the Reno Fire Hosers split into the Reno Fire Hosers B who play in the B-League and the Reno Fire Hosers D who play in the D-League. The Tahoe Dawgs have also changed their name to the Swift Institute. I believe that the name change comes as part of a sponsorship deal with the Swift Institute

B-League starts on Monday, March 13th. They start the season off with a doubleheader.

I think 4 Seasons will continue to be a middle-of-the-pack team. Last season they get the last playoff spot by one point. I think the addition of two new teams could benefit them more. Last season they came in fourth place. They had a record of 4-5-1. 4 Seasons starts their season on March 23rd against Carson City Hyundai.

After being one of the top teams in the B-League for three seasons and even winning a championship, they failed to make the playoff the last two seasons. This season they will be looking to get back in the playoffs after only missing out by one point. I think they are hungry and motivated. I think they want to prove they belong in the conversation as championship contenders. They had a record of 4-6-0 last season. Carson City Hyundai opens the season on march 13th against the Murder Hornets.

Cruz Construction had another unreal season. They won the RIAL Winter 2022/23 B-League Championship and they won the RIAL Winter 2022/23 B-League regular season title. That was their fifth B-League regular season title and third B-League championship in five B-League championship game appearances. They will be the defending champions once again this season. They are the heavy favorites to win the B-League championship and regular season title again. They finished the regular season with a record of 9-1-0. Cruz Construction will start the season on March 23rd against the Reno Fire Hosers B.

The Murder Hornets move back up to the B-League after a strong RIAL Fall 2022 season in the C-League. They have played their last 2 seasons in the C-League following the league restructure for the RIAL Summer 2022 season. The last time they were in the B-League they were a middle-of-the-pack team. During the RIAL Fall 2022 season, They came in third place. They had tied for first place but tiebreakers put them in third place. They would go on to win the RIAL Fall 2022 C-League Championship. With the move up to the B-League they are going to have to prove themselves again. I think they could be a middle team in the B-League but they could also easily have a hard time adjusting to the B-League and become a bottom team. They finished the RIAL Fall 2022 C-League with a record of 8-2-0. The Murder Hornets start the season March 13th against Carson City Hyundai.

The Reno Fire Hosers were previously in the C-League. Following the RIAL Fall 2022 season, they split into two teams. From what I understand their goal as an organization is to have a competitive team and a more casual team. Reno Fire Hosers B is supposed to be the competitive team. Honestly how this organization played during the RIAL Fall 2022 season in the C-League doesn’t make me think that they can be competitive at this level. I think this season they might struggle. I don’t think they will be contenders for a playoff spot. Their record during the RIAL Fall 2022 C-League season was 1-9-0. The Reno Fire Hosers B open the season on March 13th against Silver State Wire.

I think as a newer team trying to be competitive in the RIAL they should have stayed in the C-League. They could have become a better team before making the jump. Then to continue their journey to get better they should go up. However if this team is trying to compete with teams outside of the RIAL like the Sacramento Fire Department, they should’ve hired a GM, coach and assistant coach, then just went straight to the A-League. That combined with ice time for practice plus being in the gym would create the quickest improvement for a team even if they lost every game.

Silver State Wire had a tough season last season. They struggled to get even one win. At the end of the season, they were at the bottom of the league. I think this season could be more of the same. With the new teams, it will make it harder for Silver State Wire to make it out of the bottom of the league. They finished last season with a record of 1-7-2. The Tahoe Dawgs have changed their name to the Swift Institute. This is likely due to a sponsorship. Last season they remained in the hunt for the regular season title throughout the season. They were a top-three team. They lost by one goal in the semifinals. I think they should be in the championship conversation. I think they will be in the top three all season. They came in third place last season with a record of 5-5-0. The Swift institute will start the season on March 23rd against the Murder Hornets.

Last season the Tahoe Storm finished just shy of the regular season title. They also almost won their second B-League Championship. That game came down to a shootout. This season I’m sure their only goal is to get back to the championship game. They not only have what it takes to get their but they also have what it takes to win despite falling short this season. They finished last season with a record of 7-2-1. The Tahoe Storm start the season on March 23rd against Silver State Wire.

The C-League returns for the RIAL Spring 2022 season after a hiatus for the RIAL Winter 2022/23 season. For this season the C-League is shrinking from nine teams to six teams. They are also the only league this season to not have the championship team return. That means they are the only league without a defending champion. The Murder Hornets, Pumpkin Lagers, Reno Fire Hosers, and Q & D Construction will not be participating in the C-League this season. The Murder Hornets moved up to the B-League. The Pumpkin Lagers who were formally Flop are now the Pale Ales. They seem to be changing their name every season. The Reno Fire Hosers split into two teams playing in both the B-League and the D-League. Q & D Construction moved down to the D-League. Black Ox, Blue Moon, the Desert Dogs, the Slappy Gilmores and the United Skates will all be returning this season.

C-League starts on Thursday, March 16th. They will start the season with a triple header.

During the last C-League season expectations were high for Black Ox. After finishing third and then last in back-to-back seasons in the B-League they moved down to the C-League. Up until the RIAL Summer 2022 season, they have been competitive and relatively successful in the B-League. The thought was that they would be a top two team going into the RIAL Fall 2022 season. That did not happen. While they did have a good season, fourth place and a semifinals exit was not what they were looking for. They did fall short of their expectations. This season with the reduced number of teams I think they will be a top three team that could end up being the best in the league. They had a record of 7-3-0 during the RIAL Fall 2022 season. Black Ox open the season on March 16th against the Desert Dogs.

Blue Moon came up short of the playoffs last season. They were in the middle of the pack. They were in the hunt for the last playoff spot. This season I think they will be around the same area. I think they will be a mid-team fighting for a playoff spot. The finished the RIAL Fall 2022 season with a record of 4-6-0. Blue Moon open the season on March 16th against the Slappy Gilmores.

The Desert Dogs are a strong team. They came just short of the regular season title losing out on tiebreakers. I’m sure losing in the semifinals is not how they wanted to end their season. I think this season they will be a top-three team. I think they have a good shot at the regular season title and getting into the championship game. The had a record of 8-2-0 to finish the RIAL Fall 2022 season. The Desert Dogs open the season on March 16th against the Black Ox.

The Pumpkin Lagers who used to be Flop, are now the Pale Ales. In my last post, I said they were a new team but they are not. On the league website, there is a connection between the Pale Ales and Flop but not between Flop and the Pumpkin Lagers or the Pumpkin Lagers and the Pale Ales. I am ninety percent sure though that Flop became the Pumpkin Lagers which means they became the Pale Ales. Anyway during the fall season they were a mid pack team that just barely missed out on the playoffs. I think they will continue to be a mid-team and be fighting for the last playoff spot. They had a record of 5-5-0 to finish the RIAL Fall 2022 regular season. The Pale Ales open the season on March 16th against the United Skates.

The Slappy Gilmores dominated the D-League for the RIAL Summer 2022 season. When they moved up to the C-League for the RIAL Fall 2022 season they continued to dominate. They won the regular season title but came short of winning the championship. They even had a seventeen game winning streak from the RIAL Summer 2022 season into the RIAL Fall 2022 season. The expectations for them are high. I think they have the potential to live up to their expectations. They finished the RIAL Fall 2022 season with a record of 8-2-0. The Slappy Gilmores open the season on March 16th against Blue Moon.

The United Skates struggled during the RIAL Fall 2022 season to get out of the bottom three. They couldn’t really get into a position to fight for a playoff spot. I think their troubles could very easily continue this season. I think they might struggle to get out of last place and struggle to get into a position to fight for the last playoff spot. They had a record of 3-7-0 to finish the fall regular season. The United Skates open the season on March 16th against the Pale Ales.

Last season in the D-League the regular season title race came down to the last two games of the season. The race to get into the last playoff spot was close too. Then in the playoffs, two of the three games were really close. For this season the D-League is expanding. They will be adding two teams to bring the total to eight teams. Two teams from the C-League have dropped down. Q & D Construction have joined the D-League after not playing in the RIAL Summer 2022 season and playing in the C-League for the RIAL Fall 2022 season. The Reno Fire Hosers are also joining the D-League. The Reno Fire Hosers will be known as the Reno Fire Hosers D. The Reno Fire Hosers D are the more recreational team to come from the Reno Fire Hosers splitting into two teams.

D-League starts on Friday, March 17th. The first game will be the Reno Fire Hosers D versus Q & D construction.

After only getting two wins the Grrrowlers finished at the bottom of the D-League last season. They kept themselves in the hunt for the last playoff spot. I think this season is going to be tougher for them. With the additional teams, it will be harder for them to secure the last playoff spot. Even if they improve this season, I don’t think they will be in a playoff spot. I think they will stay as one of the bottom two teams. They had a record of 2-8-0. The Grrrowlers start their season on March 18th against the Nevada Police Foundation.

Last season the Jurassic pucks had a solid season. They were able to beat two of the top three teams and get the final playoff spot. They did get blown out in the semifinals. I think this season they will be in a similar position fighting for the last playoff spot. I think they are a middle of the pack team and not a top three team. I think they are going to have to fight with two to three other teams for the last playoff spot. They had a record of 4-5-1 last season. The Jurassic Pucks start the season on March 22nd against the Nevada Police Foundation.

Mid-Ice Crisis had a good RIAL Winter 2022/23 season. They were in the title race during the second half of the season. They finished in the top three. They were able to make the championship game. They kept the championship game close. They were in the top three last season. I think they will stay in the top three this season. I think they will make another run at the championship or come close to it. They finished last season with a record of 6-3-1. Mid-Ice Crisis starts the season on March 22nd against the Grrrowlers.

The Nevada Police Foundation did not live up to expectations last season. After winning the RIAL Summer 2022 E-League Championship they moved up to the D-League. The expectation was that they would make the playoffs. While they were in the battle for the last playoff spot up until the end, they weren’t able to get the last playoff spot. With the additional teams this season I do not think they will be able to fight for a playoff spot again this season. I think they will be a bottom two team and will struggle to come close to a playoff spot. They finished last season with a record of 2-7-1. The Nevada Police Foundation start the season on March 18th against the Grrrowlers.

Q & D Construction join the D-League after a tough RIAL Fall 2022 season in the C-League. They came in last in the C-League. They had a record of 1-9-0. I think they will do a little bit better this season. I think that in the D-League they will be a middle of the pack team. I think they will be in a position to fight for a playoff spot. Q & D Construction start the season on March 17th against the Reno Fire Hosers Hosers D.

Reno Pond Hockey is the top team in the D-League going into this season. They won the RIAL Winter 2022/23 D-League Championship after back-to-back appearances. They also won the RIAL Winter 2022/23 D-League regular season title. They have been a top-two team ever since joining the D-League for the RIAL Summer 2022 season. They were on fire last season and showed no signs of stopping at the end of the season. I think this season they will remain as the top team in the D-League. After what they did last season I think they will be the front runner for the regular season title and championship again. Reno Pond Hockey had a record of 9-1-0 last season. They start the season on March 22nd Against Q & D Construction.

The Guardians had a good winter season. They were in the fight for the regular season title right up until the end. They didn’t have a strong finish to the end of the season though. They lost back-to-back games against top three teams, then only beat the fourth and fifth place team by single goals to finish the regular season. in the playoffs they would lose in the semifinals after being considered a championship contender. Right now it is unclear if those problems will follow them into this season or get worse. I think this season they will remain as a top three team. I think that they have the ability to be able to fight for a regular season title and a championship. They had a record of 7-2-1 last season. The Guardians will start the season on March 22nd Against the Reno Fire Hosers D.

The Reno Fire Hosers split Following the RIAL Fall 2022 season. The Reno Fire Hosers D is supposed to be the more recreational team. They didn’t do too well during the RIAL Fall 2022 C-League season. They came in second to last place. I think in the D-League they will be a mid team that will be fighting for a playoff spot. Their record during the RIAL Fall 2022 C-League season was 1-9-0. The Reno Fire Hosers D open the season on March 17th against Q & D Construction.

The E-League will be returning this season. The E-League was on hiatus for the RIAL Winter 2022/23 season. During the RIAL Fall 2022 season, there was a big difference in the level of talent between the top three teams and the bottom three teams. Lover divisions in any league tend to be like that. The top teams wont really be competitive in higher levels and the bottom teams don’t have anywhere else to go. That may continue this season. They will be returning with six teams. The only new team is the Holy Pucks.

E-League starts on Wednesday, March 15th. They start the season off with a triple header.

During the RIAL Fall 2022 season, Bangarang won the E-League Championship. They came in second place in the standings. They will be the defending E-League Champions this season. I think this season they will be back fighting for the regular season title. I think they can make it back to the championship game. They had a record of 8-2-0 for the fall season.

Long Drink barely got into the playoffs for the RIAL Fall 2022 E-League season. They got in on tiebreakers only to lose in the semifinals. They were a bottom three team last season and I don’t think that is going to change this season. This season they will probably be fighting for the last playoff spot again. The came in fourth place with a record of 3-7-0 during the fall season.

Satan’s Gatekeepers barely missed the E-League playoffs during the RIAL Fall 2022 season. They lost out on tiebreakers. This season I’m sure their goal is to make the playoffs. They were a bottom team last season and I think that they will stay close to the bottom this season. They finished the RIAL Fall 2022 E-League season in fifth place with a record of 3-7-0.

The Trash Pandas finished the RIAL Fall 2022 E-League season in first place winning the RIAL Fall 2022 E-League regular season title. They came just short in the championship game. I think they are going to be at the top again this season. I think they are motivated to win a championship. The finished the fall season with a record of 9-1-0.

From what I can tell the Holy Pucks are a new team. They are taking the place of the Milkshakes though. There isn’t much that can be said about new teams. No one has seen them play yet. No one knows how they are going to do this season. I think there is a chance they could be competing for a playoff spot. I think it is unlikely that they will turn out to be a top three team.
