It was game one of the Stanley Cup Finals. This game could set the tone for the rest of the series. Winning this game means a lot. Eric Staal scored the opening goal of the 2022 Stanley Cup Finals. His short handed goal gave the Panthers the lead. Jonathan Marchessault scored late in the period on the powerplay to tie the game. The score was tied at 1-1 after the first period.

Shea Theadore scored to give the Golden Knights the lead. Anthony Duclair late in the period. His goal would tie the game again. The score was tied at 2-2 going into third period.

Zac Whitecloud scored to give the Golden Knights the lead. Mark Stone scored to give the Golden Knights a two goal lead. Reilly Smith scored late in the third period. His goal would give the Golden Knights a three goal lead. The final score was 5-1 Golden Knights. The Vegas Golden Knights now have a 1-0 series lead over the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Golden Knights didn’t give up after going down a goal. They stuck with it and kept it tied into the third period. In the third period the Golden Knights found another gear. They were able to keep the Panthers out of the net while their offense got rolling. This is a big win for them. This is the first Panther loss since the second round. I imagine they are not happy about that. It is only the first game. There is still a lot of hockey left to be played. Will the Golden Knights continue to outplay the Panthers in game two? How will the Panthers respond?

Game two will be on Monday, June 5th, 2023. The start time is set for 5:00pm PST. The game will be in Las Vegas.
