The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 starts on Thursday. The event is being hosted by Australia and New Zealand. I have talked about the kits. A lot. I have talked about the venues. In this post I am going to everything people need to know going into the world cup. FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 has expanded to thirty two teams from twenty four teams during the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019. There will be eight groups of four teams each like in the FIFA World Cup 2022. Each team will play the other three teams in their group once. The top two teams in each group move on to the elimination stage. The elimination stage continues until someone is crowned FIFA World Cup Champion. In this post I will talk about the groups, kits (again), venues (again), the schedule, and my predictions.

In Group A are New Zealand (hosts), Norway, the Philippines, and Switzerland. Norway is the top team in Group A. The Philippines are the only team in this group to not be ranked in the top thirty. I think outside of that it is a fairly even group.

In Group B are Australia, the Republic Of Ireland, Nigeria, and Canada. Canada are the top team in Group B being ranked seventh. Australia are also ranked in the top ten. Every team in Group B are in the top twenty five except for Nigeria. It will be a good group to watch.

In Group C are Spain, Coast Rica, Zambia, and Japan. Spain are the top team in Group C ranked at sixth. Japan are also in the top fifteen. Costa Rica are in the top fifty but Zambia aren’t even in the top seventy five. I think Group C is lop sided with two teams that should easily make the round of 16 and two teams that are going to struggle to be competitive in this tournament. I think Spain vs Japan will be a good match. I think Zambia is going to be lucky not lose every game by a blowout.

In Group D are England, Haiti, Denmark, and China. England is the top team in Group D ranked at number four. Denmark and China are both in the top fifteen. Haiti is in the top fifty five. I think Group D will be a tough group. I think Haiti is going up against some strong competition. I think they are going to struggle, while Denmark and China fight for the second spot into the round of 16. This is my pick for the group of death.

In Group E are the United States, Vietnam, the Netherlands, and Portugal. The United States are the top team in Group E and the tournament coming in being ranked number one. They are also the back to back defending champions after winning the FIFA Women World Cup in 2019 and 2015. Since this event started the United States has com in the top three every time. The Netherlands are also in the top ten at number nine. Portugal is in the top twenty five and Vietnam is in the top thirty five. Outside of the Netherlands I think the United States should dominate this group.

In Group F are France, Jamaica, Brazil, and Panama. France is the top team in Group F coming in ranked at number five. Brazil is also in the top ten ranked at number eight. Jamaica and Panama are outside of the top forty. I think this is another group where it is lop sided. I think France and Brazil will be a good game to watch. I think there is little chance for Jamaica and Panama to advance.

In Group G are Sweden, South Africa, Italy, and Argentina. Sweden are the top team in Group G being ranked number three. Italy is in the top twenty, Argentina is in the top thirty, and Jamaica is in the top forty five. I think this group is unbalanced with teams all over the place. I think Sweden should dominate and advance fairly easily.

In Group H are Germany, Morocco, Colombia, and the Republic of Korea. Germany is the top team in Group H being ranked number two. The Republic of Korea are in the top twenty, Colombia are in the top twenty five, Morocco are outside of the top seventy. I think Germany will dominate this group with the Republic of Korea and Colombia fighting to advance.

I have talked a lot about the kits already. I do have a few updates though. Switzerland has not officially released a second kit making them another team without a white kit. I did not catch that at first. The white kit that I believe they are going to use is their 2022 international kit. It is likely that the teams that do not have a second jersey will go without a second jersey. It is also possible that teams will use their FIFA World Cup 2022 kit or their 2022 international kit. It has also basically been confirmed that Sweden will use their yellow 2022 international jersey. Columbia (As far as I know) still have not released a second jersey but like Sweden it is basically confirmed that they will use their yellow 2022 international kit. It was a lot harder to research the kits for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 than it was for the FIFA World Cup 2022.

There are ten venues across both Australia and New Zealand. None of the venues were built for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. I think that is a good thing. It is better than the FIFA World Cup 2022 where all of the venues were built or rebuilt for the competition. Visually they range though from stunning to ugly. They are also not using some of the larger stadiums in each country. That being said none of the venues are necessarily bad (outside of visually) and all surve their communities well beyond the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
