The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 continued last night. There was three more matches. Colombia played the Republic of Korea. New Zealand played the Philippines. Switzerland played Norway. The FIFA Women’s World Cup kind of got crazy with the last three matches. There has now been eight matches in a row where at least one of the teams have not scored a goal. There has only been one match in the entire tournament so far where both teams have scored. It has gotten to the point where I am questioning if some teams are going to score at all in the tournament. That being said every single goal matters a lot more now. The winning strategy for most of the teams now could be just score one.

Colombia vs Korea Republic
Colombia played the Republic of Korea. It was a Group H match. The game started off with a yellow card for Colombia in the 10′ minute. The Republic of Korea got a yellow card in the 29′ minute. Colombia scored the first goal of the game in the 30′ minute. The goal was scored by #11 Catalina Usme. The goal was scored on a penalty kick after the Republic of Korea player blocked the ball with her arm. in the 39′ minute Colombia added to their lead. #18 Linda Caicedo scored to put Colombia up by two goals. She came down the wing with the ball. She cut in towards center and took a shot. Her shot was too much for the keeper to handle. The keeper blocked the ball but it went in behind her. Colombia got another yellow card in the 45+6′ minute. The Republic of Korea got a yellow card in the 45+7′ minute. The score was 2-0 Colombia at half time. Colombia would hold on to their two goal lead. The final score as 2-0 Colombia.
This game was a solid showing from Colombia. They showed they can finish. The Republic of Korea unfortunately had that penalty called against them. Then their keeper let them down by not saving the second goal. The Republic of Korea were their own worst enemies in this game. Colombia scored one and kept the pressure on them. The second goal put the game away. It ended up being a good game.

New Zealand vs Philippines
New Zealand played the Philippines. It was a Group A match. The Philippines scored the games only goal in the 24′ minute. The goal was scored by #7 Sarina Bolden. It was the Philippines first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup goal. The ball was lobbed into the box. It bounced around before being lobbed back into the middle where it was headed in. New Zealand got a yellow card in the 42′ minute. At halftime the Philippines were leading 1-0. The Philippines got a yellow card in the 49′ minute. New Zealand’s goal was called back in the 70′ minute. The final score was 1-0 Philippines.
This was the Philippines first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup win. They need at least a draw to keep their world cups alive and got a win. Overall watching the game it felt like they outworked New Zealand. They were winning loose balls. They were winning headers. In the end it only takes one goal.

Switzerland vs Norway
Switzerland played Norway. It was a Group A match. Norway needed at least a draw to stay alive in the competition. Nothing happened in the first half. The score was still tied at 0-0. Neither team would score in the second half. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.
This was not the result either team was looking for. This was the third match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup to end in a 0-0 draw. So far all of the draws have been 0-0. This was also the eighth game in a row where one of the teams did not score. This game is disappointing from both sides as neither could even get a goal. The result does keep Norway’s hopes to get out of the group stage alive.

Switzerland leads Group A. Norway is last in Group A. Germany still lead Group H with Colombia now in second.

Japan is playing Costa Rica. That should be a good game. Costa Rica needs at least a draw to avoid elimination. Spain is playing Zambia. Spain should dominate that game. Zambia do not at least get a daw they will be eliminated. Canada is playing the Republic of Ireland. That should be a good game. I think Canada will win that game. The Republic of Ireland need a draw to keep their hopes of advancing alive.
