Sweden vs Italy
Sweden played Italy. It was a Group G match. Sweden scored the opening goal in the 39′ minute. The goal was scored by #13 Amanda Ilestedt. A corner kick from the left of the goalie ended up being headed in. Sweden scored again in the 44′ minute. That goal was scored by #18 Fridolina Rolfo. It was another corner kick goal. The corner kick came from the left of the goalie again. After bounding around it was kicked in. Sweden scored again less than a minute later. This goal came from #11 Stina Blackstenius. Two of the Swedish players were able to get behind the Italy defenders. While inside the box one of the Sweden players drew in the goalie before passing it back towards the middle. The ball was then stopped in front of the net before Stina Blackstenius put it in the net. The score was 3-0 Sweden at halftime.
Sweden added to their lead in the 50′ minute. #13 Amanda Ilestedt scored again. It was another corner kick from the left of the goalie that was headed in. Sweden scored the games final goal in the 90+5′ minute. The goal was scored by #15 Rebecka Blomqvist. After a couple of long passes she got the ball. She only had one defender to beat and she did that fairly easily. She then went one on one with the keeper and scored. The keeper came out to challenge for the ball but I think it would have been better if the keeper stayed closer to her net (as her defenders were coming). It would have made for a more difficult shot. The final score was 5-0 Sweden.
This game was another brutal blowout. Italy will probably still recover and end up in the Round of 16 but still this was not a good showing for them. The third goal put the game away. The game was out of reach for Italy before they even took the field for the second half. Sweden was brutally efficient on their corner kicks in this game. Italy just wasn’t there defensively and it showed. With that result Sweden will now be moving on to the Round of 16.

France vs Brazil
France Played Brazil. This was a Group F match. The game started off with a yellow card for France in the 11′ minute. France would score the games opening goal in the 17′ minute. That goal was scored by #9 Eugenie Le Sommer. After a long lob into the box the ball was headed towards her. She headed it into the back of the net. France would get another yellow card in the 29′ minute. Brazil got a yellow card in the 44′ minute. At halftime the score was 1-0 France. Brazil scored in the 58′ minute to tie the game. The goal was scored by #9 Debora Cristiane de Oliverira. A shot from Brazil was blocked but the ball snuck behind the defense where she got it. Her shot went in pretty easily. France got another yellow card in the 69′ minute. France retook the lead in the 83′ minute. The goal was scored by #3 Wendie Renard. A corner kick from the left of the goalie was headed in. The final score was 2-1 France.
It was a close game with France getting the edge. France pulled off the win. It could have gone either way. Both teams played really well.

Panama vs Jamaica
Panama played Jamaica, It was another Group F match. Panama got a yellow card in the 13′ minute. They got another yellow card in the 17′ minute. Jamaica got a yellow card in the 31′ minute. Neither team scored in the first half. The score was still 0-0 at halftime. Jamaica scored in the 56′ minute. #17 Allyson Swaby scored the goal. The goal was scored on a header from a corner kick from the right of the keeper. This was their second ever goal in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. It was also their first ever lead in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. In the 90+3′ minute a penalty kick was overturned after VAR (review). The final score was 1-0 Jamaica. With that result Jamaica won their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup game.
Jamaica won their first game. Thats big for them. They are now in a solid position for trying to advance out of the group stage. Panama’s goal keeper really kept them in this game. Unfortunately Panama couldn’t give her any help on offense. With this result Panama have been eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2023 in the group stage. Panama have also not scored a goal after two games.
