The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 continued last night. There was four matches. Group G and Group F finished up group play. Argentina played Sweden. South Africa played Italy. Panama played France. Jamaica played Brazil. There are only two games tonight as the group stage finishes up. Morocco will take on Colombia. The Korea Republic will play Germany.
So far fourteen teams have been eliminated in the group stage. Fourteen teams have advanced to the Round of 16.

Argentina vs Sweden
Argentina took on Sweden. It was a Group G match. It was the final group stage game for both teams. Sweden secured their place in the Round of 16 prior to this match. Argentina needed a win to have a chance at advancing. Argentina needed to win and Italy needed to draw with South Africa for Argentina to have a chance. If Argentina lost or the match ended in a draw they would be eliminated. The match started off with a Sweden yellow card in the 20′ minute. Argentina got a yellow card in the 45+5′ minute. The game was scoreless at halftime. Sweden scored in 66′ minute thanks to a goal from #15 Rebecka Blommqvist. The ball was crossed towards the middle of the box and headed in. Sweden put the game out of reach for Argentina with a goal in the 90′ minute from #23 Elin Rubensson. Sweden got a penalty kick after a foul by Argentina in the box. Sweden scored on the penalty kick. The final score was 2-0 Sweden.
The result for this game was as expected. Argentina kept it close up until the final minutes of the match. With that result Argentina have been eliminated from the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. Argentina finish the tournament having lost two matches and drawn one match. They scored two goals. They are the fifth team to be eliminated without winning a game. Sweden won Group G with this result. They won all three of their group stage games. They will play the United States in the Round of 16.



South Africa vs Italy
South Africa played Italy. It was the final group stage game for Group G. The game was played at the same time as the Argentina against Sweden game. If South Africa won and Argentina lost, South Africa would advance. If South Africa won and Argentina draws, South Africa would advance. If South Africa lost or the game ended in a draw they would be eliminated. If Italy won they would advance. If Italy lost they would be eliminated. If Italy draw and Argentina lost, Italy would advance. If Italy draw and Argentina won, It will come down to tie breakers between Italy and Argentina.
Italy scored on a penalty kick in the 11′ minute. The gal was scored by #18 Arianna Caruso. There was a foul in the box and Italy scored on the penalty kick. The game was tied in the 32′ minute with an own goal from Italy. The Italian player went to pass the ball back to her keeper. The pass missed. The ball ended up in the back of her net. At halftime the score was 1-1. South Africa took the lead in the 67′ minute with a goal from #8 Hildah Magaia. The ball was passed to her in the box where she was wide open. Her shot ended up in the back of the net. Italy tied the game in the 74′ minute with another goal from #18 Arianna Caruso. She deflected the ball in off of a corner kick. South Africa retook the lead in the 90+2′ minute with a goal from #11 Thembi Kgatlana. The ball was taken into the box. The South African player had plenty of time and space to shoot the ball. She decided to pass it to Thembi Kgatlana who just had to redirect it in. The final score was 3-2 South Africa.
Italy became their own worst enemy here. The own goal made all the difference in the end. It was a very entertaining match with both sides trading leads. It had a very thrilling conclusion. With that result South Africa are advancing to the Round of 16. This was the first ever FIFA Women’s world Cup win for South Africa. This will also be the first time they are moving on to the Round of 16. Italy have been eliminated. They finished the tournament with one win and two losses.
Sweden won Group G. South Africa came in second and will be advancing. Italy came in third and are eliminated. Argentina came in last in the group.



Panama vs France
Panama played France. It was a Group F match. It was the final match of the group stage for both teams. Panama had already been eliminate going into this match. France would advance with a win or draw. Panama scored 2′ minutes into the match to take a surprising lead over France. #10 Marta Cox scored the goal. The ball was shot off of a set piece and went in. France tied the game in the 21′ minute with a goal from #2 Marllr Lakrar. The ball was crossed into the box and was headed towards the net. One of the Panama defenders hit the ball wrong and instead of clearing it she kicked it into the back of her net. France took the lead in the 28′ minute. #11 Kadidaitou Diani scored the goal. The ball was passed to her in the box where she was able to get around the keeper and score. France added to their lead in the 37′ minute with another goal from #11 Kadidaitou Diani. France was awarded a penalty kick and scored. France added to their lead in the 45+5′ minute with a goal from #17 Lea Le Garrec. It was a crazy shot from a long way out that went in. The score was 4-1 France at halftime.
France got another penalty kick in the 50′ minute after VAR (review). #11 Kadidaitou Diani scored on the penalty kick to complete her hat trick. Panama scored on a penalty kick in the 64′ minute. #5 Yomira Pinzon scored that goal. She then got a yellow card in the 66′ minute. Panama scored again in the 87′ minute. That goal came from #19 Lineth Cedeno. A long ball ended up going off the crossbar and Panama put the rebound into the back of the net. #23 Vivki Bencho scored for France in the 90+10′ minute. The ball was crossed into the box and she deflected it into the net. The final score was 6-3 France.
France came to win. Panama went down swinging. This is now the highest scoring game of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 so far with nine total goals. Panama finishes the tournament without a win. They have become the sixth team to do that. All of their goals came in this game as well but at least they scored. With that result France won Group F and will be moving on to the Round of 16.



Jamaica vs Brazil
Jamaica played Brazil. It was the final group stage match for Group F. It was the last group stage game for both teams. The game was played during the same time as the Panama and France game. Jamaica needed a win or draw to advance. If Jamaica lost they would be eliminated. Brazil would advance with a win. With a loss Brazil would be eliminated. If Brazil draw and France lost, it will come down to tie breakers between Brazil and France.
Jamaica got a yellow card in the 30′ minute. The score was 0-0 at halftime. The final score was 0-0.
It was an uneventful game. It was not the way Brazil wanted to end their tournament. With this result Jamaica advance to the round of 16 for the first time ever. They finish the group stage undefeated after two draws and a win. Brazil have been eliminated in the group stage for the third time ever. This is the first time since 1995 that Brazil is not moving on past the group stage.
Franc won Group F. Jamaica came in second and will be advancing. Brazil came in third and was eliminated. Panama came in last in the group.



Switzerland won Group A. Australia won Group B. Japan won Group C. England won Group D. The Netherlands won Group E. France won Group F. Sweden won Group G. Colombia lead Group H.
Japan, Spain, England, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Colombia, Australia, Nigeria, the Netherlands, the United States, Denmark, South Africa, France, and Jamaica are advancing to the Round of 16.
Costa Rica, Zambia, the Republic of Ireland, Vietnam, Panama, New Zealand, the Philippines, Canada, Portugal, China, Haiti, Argentina, Italy, and Brazil have been eliminated in the group stage.



Group H finishes up tonight. Morocco plays Colombia. This will be the final group stage match for both teams. Colombia is favored to win the game. Colombia is already moving on to the Round of 16. If Morocco win and Germany win, it will come down to tie breakers between Morocco and Germany. If Morocco win and Germany lose, Morocco will advance. If Morocco loss they will be eliminated. If Morocco draw and Germany draw, it will come down to tiebreakers between Morocco and Germany. If Morocco Draw and Germany lose, Morocco will advance.
In the final Group H match and final group stage match Germany is playing the Korea Republic. Germany is heavily favored to win to the point it should be a blowout. If Germany win and Morocco win, it will come down to tiebreakers. If Germany win and Morocco loses or draws, Germany will advance. If Germany draw and Morocco draw, it will come down to tie breakers. If Germany lose and Morocco lose, it will come down to tie breakers between Germany, Morocco, and the Korea Republic.


Switzerland are playing Spain. The Netherlands are playing South Africa. Japan are playing Norway. Sweden are playing the United States. Australia are plaing Denmark. France are witing on Group H results to see who they play. England are playing Nigeria. Jamaica are waiting on Group H results to see who they play.
