The knock out stage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 continued with the Semifinals. The first semifinal game was between Spain and the Group G winners Sweden. The next semifinals match will be at 3:00 AM PST. That game will be between the Group B winners and co-hosts Australia and the Group D winners England.
With the latest results the first team has made it to the Final. The other team to make it to the Final will be determined after tonights 3:00 AM match.

Spain vs Sweden
In the first Semifinal match Spain played the Group G winners Sweden. This was Spains first ever Semifinal match in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. In the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 They were eliminated in the Round of 16. Making the Semifinals is the best result they have ever had. Spain are the only team still remaining that did not win their group. This was the fifth Semifinals appearance in the FIFA Women’s World Cup for Sweden. They came in third place in the FIFA women’s World Cup 2019. Their best ever result was second place after losing in the final in 2003.
Neither team scored in the first half. At halftime the score was tied at 0-0. Spain took the lead in the 81′ minute. The goal was scored by #18 Salma Celeste Paralluelo Ayingono. The ball was put into the box. It bounced around before being kicked in. Sweden tied the game in the 88′ minute with a goal from #15 Rebecka Blomqvist. The ball was crossed into the box. A Sweden player headed the ball towards her. She had plenty of space and time to score. Spain respond with a quick goal in the 89′ minute from #19 Olga Carmona. She got the ball off of a corner kick. She took a shot from just outside of the box to score. The final score was 2-1 Spain.
It was another thrilling match. It became a really exciting game at the end. With that result Spain have advanced to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 Final. This is their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup Final appearance. They will end up playing Australia or England. Sweden will now play in the Third Place game. They will face the loser of the Australia and England match. It will be Swedens fourth time in the Third Place match. It will be back to back appearances there for them. They have not lost a third place match yet.



Switzerland won Group A. Australia won Group B. Japan won Group C. England won Group D. The Netherlands won Group E. France won Group F. Sweden won Group G. Colombia won Group H.
Japan, Spain, England, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Colombia, Australia, Nigeria, the Netherlands, the United States, Denmark, South Africa, France, Jamaica, and Morocco advanced to the Round of 16.
Costa Rica, Zambia, the Republic of Ireland, Vietnam, Panama, New Zealand, the Philippines, Canada, Portugal, China, Haiti, Argentina, Italy, Brazil, Germany, and the Korea Republic were eliminated in the group stage.



In the second Semifinal match, The Group B winning co-hosts Australia will take on the Group G winners England. This will be Australias first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup Semifinal match. In the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 they were eliminated in the Round of 16. Reaching the Semifinals has been their best ever result at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. This will be Englands third ever Semifinal appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. All three of those appearances have been in a row. Their best ever result was winning the Third Place game in 2015.


Spain, Australia, and England are the last three remaining teams.
Switzerland, South Africa, Norway, the United states, Denmark, Morocco, Nigeria, and Jamaica were eliminated in the Round of 16. The Netherlands, Japan, France, and Colombia were eliminated in the Quarterfinals. Sweden have been eliminated in the Semifinals.
Their are no longer any teams from Group A, Group E, Group F, Group G, and Group H in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. There are also no longer any teams from CONCACAF, CONBOL, CAF, or the OFC. All of the remaining teams are from UEFA and the AFC.
