The knock out stage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 continued with the second Semifinal game. The game was between the Group B winning co-hosts Australia and the Group D winners England. The winner would play Spain in the Final.
With the latest results the Final is now set. That will be on Sunday, August 20th, at 3:00 AM PST. The Third Place match is also set. That game will be on Saturday, August 19th, at 1:00 AM PST.

Australia vs England
The second Semifinal was played between the Group B winning co-hosts Australia and the Group D winners England. This was Australias first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup Semifinal match. In the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 they were eliminated in the Round of 16. Reaching the Semifinals has been their best ever result at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. This was Englands third ever Semifinal appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. All three of those appearances have been in a row. Their best ever result was winning the Third Place game in 2015.
The game started off with a yellow card given to England in the 10′ minute. England took the lead in the 36′ minute with a goal from #10 Ella Toone. The ball was passed to her from inside the box. She was able to score on her shot. At halftime England had a 1-0 lead. Australia tied the game in the 63′ minute with a goal from #20 Sam Kerr. She took the ball down the wing and took a shot from about twenty yards out that went in. England regained the leadin the 71′ minute with a goal from #11 Lauren Hemp. A long ball from the England half ended up in the box. Australia couldn’t get control of the ball. She did and scored. England made it a two goal lead in the 86′ minute. That goal was scored by #23 Alessia Russo. The Australian defense went towards the ball carrier allowing her to get open. The ball was passed to her. She had plenty of time and space in the box. He shot beat the keeper. England got a yellow card in the 90+5′ minute. The final score was 3-1 England.
England capitalized on the Australian defensive mistakes allowing them to put the game out of reach for Australia. Overall it was a good game. England wanted to go to the final and they showed it. With that result England are now in the Final. They will play Spain. That game will be on Sunday, August 20th, at 3:00 AM PST. Australian will now face Sweden in the third place match. That game will be on Saturday, August 19th, at 1:00 AM PST.



Switzerland won Group A. Australia won Group B. Japan won Group C. England won Group D. The Netherlands won Group E. France won Group F. Sweden won Group G. Colombia won Group H.
Japan, Spain, England, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Colombia, Australia, Nigeria, the Netherlands, the United States, Denmark, South Africa, France, Jamaica, and Morocco advanced to the Round of 16.
Costa Rica, Zambia, the Republic of Ireland, Vietnam, Panama, New Zealand, the Philippines, Canada, Portugal, China, Haiti, Argentina, Italy, Brazil, Germany, and the Korea Republic were eliminated in the group stage.



In the Third Place match the Group G winner Sweden will take on the Group B winning co-hosts Australia. This will be Swedens fourth time in the Third Place match. This will be back to back appearances for them in the Third Place match. They have not lost any of their third place matches at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. In the FIFA WOmen’s World Cup 2019 they won third place after winning the Third Place game. Their best ever result was being Runners up in 2003. This will be Australias first ever Third Place match at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. In the FIFA Women’s World cup 2019 they were eliminated in the Round of 16. This is the best they have every done at a FIFA Women’s World Cup. This game will be on Saturday, August 19th, at 1:00 AM PST.
The Final between Spain and England will be on Sunday, August 20th, at 3:00 AM PST.


Spain and England are the finalists.
Switzerland, South Africa, Norway, the United states, Denmark, Morocco, Nigeria, and Jamaica were eliminated in the Round of 16. The Netherlands, Japan, France, and Colombia were eliminated in the Quarterfinals. Sweden and Australia have been eliminated in the Semifinals.
Their are no longer any teams from Group A, Group B, Group E, Group F, Group G, and Group H in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. There are also no longer any teams from CONCACAF, CONBOL, CAF, the OFC, or the AFC. All of the remaining teams are from UEFA.
