The Reno Ice Adult League Spring 2023 season ended a while ago. What a challenge this last season was. The RIAL Fall 2022 season is going on now. It’s time for a review of Reno Pond Hockey’s seventh season in the Reno Ice Adult League. This season ended up being the most difficult test Reno Pond Hockey has had to face since moving to the D-League.

Reno Pond Hockey went undefeated during the RIAL Spring 2023 D-League season. They finished the regular season with a record of 10-0-0. They won the RIAL Spring 2023 D-League regular season title and would go on to win the RIAL Spring 2023 D-League Championship. Reno Pond Hockey did win back to back RIAL D-League Championships. They also had a 23 game winning streak to finish the season.

There wasn’t much of an off season. Reno Pond Hockey did lose a few players including their top goal scorer. There was three or four players who were going to join the team but ended up not joining. Going into the season Reno Pond Hockey was short a few players.

Hockey’s goalie Justin Farmer was injured prior to the start of the season. Reno Pond Hockey started the season off with a close 1-3 defeat to The Guardians. They followed that up with a 1-7 defeat to the Reno Fire Hosers. One of Reno Pond Hockeys top players was ejected from this game and would receive a lifetime ban following the game for arguing with the official. This was the first time Reno Pond Hockey had lost back to back games since the RIAL Spring 2022 B-League season. Reno Pond Hockey got their first win of the season against the Grrrowlers with a 8-3 victory. Justin would come back for this game but would get injured again and be out for the rest of season. They would follow that up with an 8-3 victory over the Grrrowlers for back to back wins. They would beat the Nevada Police Foundation 5-1 to win three games in a row. Reno Pond Hockey then lost 3-6 to Mid-Ice Crisis. They then lost to the Jurassic Pucks 2-5. They then lost to Q & D Construction 1-2. Going into the final two games of season Reno Pond Hockey still had a chance to make the playoffs if they won both of their final games. they lost to the Jurassic Pucks 0-2. That eliminated them from the playoffs. They finished the season with a 3-4 shootout loss to The Guardians. Reno Pond Hockey did not make the playoffs after finishing in 6th place.
Not improving during the offseason ended up hurting Reno Pond Hockey throughout the season. This season ended up being the third worst season in team history. Overall Reno Pond Hockey was still competitive. They only got blown out once. all of their other losses were within three goals. Reno Pond Hockey kept it close for the last three games of the season. Summer seasons are always the hardest for us. Reno Pond Hockey had a short roster from the start this season. There were games where no one showed up. Goal tending really hurt Reno Pond Hockey this season. There were games where our goal tenders just could not stop the puck. After all of the diversity of this season I think Reno Pond Hockey did their best and they gave themselves a shot towards the end of the season.

Reno Pond Hockey did not make the playoffs for the first time since the RIAL Spring 2022 B-League season.
