Today is the fourth day of Conceptober. Todays prompt is create a Winter Classic Concept. The National Hockey League Winter Classic is an annual outdoor game held at a stadium on January 1st. It is the biggest event of the National Hockey League season. For the 2024 NHL Winter Classic the Seattle Kraken will host the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. T-Mobile Park is the home of the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball. Todays concept will not be for the NHL 2024 Winter Classic. I have another concept for that coming soon.
Again I used the Wheel of Names to pick teams for this concept. Excluded was the Florida Panthers and Pittsburgh Penguins as I already did concepts for them this month. Also excluded were teams that previously played in the NHL Winter Classic. The Calgary Flames won the spin. The second spin named them the home team. The third spin chose their opponent as the Tampa Bay Lightning. So For this concept the Calgary Flames host the Tampa Bay Lightning for the NHL Winter Classic 2025.
The logo is simple. It is inspired by former NHL Winter Classic logos. It is also inspired by the flag of Alberta. It has similar elements of wheat and mountains like the Alberta flag has. The colors are the Calgary Flames primary colors and the colors they used for the 2010 NHL Heritage Classic.
The Calgary Flames jersey for this concept is red, yellow, and wheat. I tried to create a vintage jersey inspired by their home jersey. On the front is a recolored version of their logo. On the shoulder is the event logo.
The Tampa Bay Lightning jersey for this concept is white and blue. On the front it has a “Bolts” wordmark logo inspired by their old alternate jersey. On the shoulder is the event logo. For the design of the jersey I knew I wanted to use a wordmark for the rest of the jersey I just tried to create something vintage looking.
