Today is the fifth day of Conceptober. Todays prompt is create a Heritage Classic Concept. The National Hockey League Heritage Classic is one of the biggest events of the season. It is not held annually but it is always held in Canada. One team is always a Canadian team. The NHL Heritage Classic is always outdoors like the NHL Winter Classic. For the next Heritage Classic the Edmonton Oilers are hosting the Calgary Flames in Edmonton. This will not be a concept for that game.
Again I used the Wheel of Names to pick teams for this concept. Excluded was the Florida Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Calgary Flames as I already did concepts for them this month. The first spin also excluded NHL teams from the United States. The Winner was the Vancouver Canucks. The team they would play for this concept ended up being the New York Islanders. This concept turned into an Eastern vs Western battle with two teams that joined the NHL in the 70s.
The logo is simple. It is inspired by former NHL Heritage Classic logos. It has a maple leaf with the event name and and banner with the location and year.
The Vancouver Canucks jersey for this concept is blue, green, and white. It is based on their 1970 away jersey. On the front is their C hockey stick logo. It is a modern version of their logo used in the 1970s. On the shoulder is the event logo.
The New York Islanders jersey is white, blue, and orange. The jersey is based on their 1978 away jersey. The colors are the same colors they used for their 2021 Reverse Retro jersey. On the front is a recolored version of their current logo. On the shoulder is the event logo.
