Yesterday was the seventh day of Conceptober. I did not finish my concept in time to get it out yesterday but I am doubling up on concepts today. Yesterdays prompt was to create a Stadium Series concept. In the NHL the Stadium Series allows more teams to play in outdoor hockey games outside of the Heritage Classic and Winter Classic. Typically instead of having a vintage or throwback theme like other outdoor games, the stadium series has a contemporary or futuristic theme. I have always like the Stadium series and have always thought it should be expanded to add more games. I think it should have one game in each of the four divisions.
Again I used the Wheel of Names to pick team for this concept. Excluded where the teams who had previously played in the NHL Stadium Series. Those teams are the Anaheim Ducks, the LA Kings, the New York Rangers, the New Jersey Devils, the New York Islanders, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Chicago Blackhawks, the San Jose Sharks, the Minnesota Wild, the Detroit Red Wings, the Colorado Avalanche, the Philadelphia Flyers, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning, the Nashville Predators, and the Carolina Hurricanes. Also excluded where the I already did Conceptober Concepts for. Those teams are the Florida Panthers, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Calgary Flames, the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Vancouver Canucks, and the New York Islanders.
The winners ended up being the Winnipeg Jets and Ottawa Senators.

The logo is is inspired by former NHL Stadium Series logos. It is a shield with the event name, year, NHL logo, and a pattern on it. The logo is in the Winnipeg Jets colors.

The Winnipeg Jets jersey is dark blue and light blue. On the sleeves is a gradient pattern with some texture to it. Where the stripping would normally go on the jersey is a paint brush design. On the front is their logo. On the shoulder is the event logo.
The first thing I think of when I think about the future of sports jerseys is the World Cup and the Olympics. Often times the designs shown off in the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup are glimpses into what the future of jerseys will look like. What has happened in the past is that new designs will come out in the Olympics or FIFA World Cup and those designs kind of dictate the design of jerseys following those events. What was in the 2022 Winter Olympics and FIFA World Cup in 2022 and 2023 is a lot of sublimation and patterns. I think in the 2020’s and into the 2030’s that is going to be the direction of jersey design.
What I think the future of hockey jerseys could be is a lot more patterns, more rubber logos like the NHL logo on the collars of the jerseys and more sublimated jerseys. I don’t think that stitching will completely go away in the next ten years but as companies push for lighter and cheaper jerseys screen printed jerseys and heat pressed names and logos might take over. We have already seen sublimated jerseys take over the amateur market. It’s only a matter of time before pro teams have sublimated jerseys with heat pressed or stitched names and logos. Some ECHL and SPHL teams already don’t use any stitching. We have seen sublimated jerseys in the NHL too as recently as the 2022-23 season.

The Ottawa Senators jersey is white, red, gold, and black. It has a red pattern on the sleeves and sides of the jersey. On the front is their logo. On the shoulder is the event logo.
