Today is the eleventh day of Conceptober. Today’s prompt is to create a jersey concept for a defunct team. Ice Hockey probably has the most defunct teams in any sport. There is something like sixty defunct pro leagues in north american alone. That would be hundreds or thousands of teams there not including teams that are no longer around in current leagues. That does not count Europe leagues, semi-pro league, senior leagues, junior leagues, women’s leagues, other international leagues, or roller hockey. There is a long list.
Again I used the Wheel of Names to pick a team for this concept. I started with the list of hockey leagues from Hockeydb to narrow it down to just one league. Out of the fifty one pro North American leagues Hockeydb has information on, the Central Hockey League that started in 1963 won the spin. Excluded from the team spin where the Birmingham Bulls, the Phoenix Roadrunners, the Seattle Totems, and the Tulsa Oilers. The current Birmingham Bulls play in the Southern Pro Hockey League as the spiritual successor to the team of the same name that played in the World Hockey Association, Central Hockey League, Atlantic Coast Hockey League, and the ECHL. The Tucson Roadrunners play in the AHL as the as the spiritual successor to the Phoenix Roadrunners who played in the Western Hockey League, the CHL, Pacific Hockey League, and the International Hockey League. The first spiritual successor to the original Phoenix Roadrunners was in 2005 with an ECHL team. The original Phoenix Roadrunners folded in 1997 after forty years because the original Winnipeg Jets relocated to Phoenix to become the Phoenix Coyotes. The current Seattle Totems play in the USPHL as the spiritual successor to the team of the same name that played in the WHL/CHL. The Tulsa Oilers currently play in the ECHL. The Tulsa Oilers are the same franchise as the team that played in the CHL. Thy have basically been the same franchise with different owners since 1928.
The winner from the 31 team Central Hockey League spin was the Memphis South Stars. The first Central Hockey League team in Memphis was the Memphis Wings. They started play in 1964 as a farm team for the Detroit Red Wings. That team moved from Indianapolis to Cincinnati shortly into the 1963/64 season. The team was then moved to Memphis. After three seasons and one playoff appearance where they lost in the Semifinals, Detroit moved the team to Fort Worth. The Memphis South Stars would replace that team. They were affiliated with the Minnesota North Stars. Minnesota would move the Memphis South Stars after two seasons to Waterloo Iowa to become the Iowa Stars. Since then the Memphis Riverkings of the second CHL have been the only pro team. The Memphis Riverkings were only around from 1992 to 2007.

For this concept the Memphis South Stars would not have relocated to Iowa. The Minnesota North stars would have kept the team in Memphis. They would have continued to play in the CHL up until 1984 when the league folded. They would have gone on to play in the IHL up until it folded in 2001. In 2002 they would have joined the AHL. In 2005 the Dallas stars would have relocated their AHL affiliate from Memphis to Iowa with the Memphis South Stars moving to the CHL. In 2014 they would have joined the ECHL after almost going to the SPHL. In 2023 they would be in the ECHL as the Dallas Stars affiliate.
For this concept from 1967 to 2005 they would have been the primary affiliate of the Minnesota North Stars or Dallas Stars. from 2005 to 2007 they would have been unaffiliated. From 2007 to 2010 they would have been affiliated with the Atlanta Thrashers. from 2010 to 2014 they would have been affiliated with the Nashville Predators. From 2014 to 2023 they would have been affiliated with the Dallas Stars.
For this concept from 1992 to 2005 the Memphis Riverkings would have been the minor league affiliate of the Memphis South Stars. The Memphis Riverkings would have played in the CHL from 1992 to 2005 and in the UHL from 2005 to 2007. Their other minor league affiliates would have been the Clinton Comets from 1968 to 1972, the Saginaw Gears from 1972 to 1974, the Fort Wayne Komets from 1975 to 1980, the Baltimore Clippers in 1981, the Toledo Goal Diggers from 1981 to 1984. the Greensboro Monarchs from 2989 to 1990. and the Dayton Bombers for 1991 and 1992.

The Memphis South Stars jersey I designed for them is based on the Dallas Stars alternate jersey. It supposed to be their home jersey. On the front is their primary logo. Their primary logo is inspired by the Dallas Stars logo. It has an S in front of a star design. On the shoulders are their alternate logo that has the team name on it. The jersey also has a star pattern on the sleeves. The green they would use is the brighter green from the Dallas Stars alternate jersey instead of using the exact same colors as the Dallas Stars.
