Lake Tahoe Pro Hockey are set to unveil their ECHL team name and logo on Thursday, November 30th, 2023. It was announced back in July that Lake Tahoe would be getting an ECHL expansion team. Earlier in November they announced they would be revealing their team name and logos at the end of the month. Well the end of the month is here. They will be announcing the new Lake Tahoe ECHL team name and logos tomorrow. We will not know what the team name will be until 6pm.
The Lake Tahoe ECHL team will be the 29th team in the league. They will start play for the 2024-25 season. They will be playing their home games at the 5,000 capacity Lake Tahoe Blue Center. Lake Tahoe will be the Vegas Golden Knights and Henderson Silver Knights as the third professional ice hockey team in Nevada. They will be the first ECHL team in Nevada since the Las Vegas Wranglers folded in 2014. They will also be the western most team in the ECHL. Lake Tahoe will also be the first pro hockey team in the Northern Nevada and Lake Tahoe area since the 1997/98 season when the Reno Rage played in the West Coast Hockey League. The ECHL has been trying to break into the Reno Tahoe market since at least 2007.
We still do not know the results of the name the team contest that was launched on July 21st, 2023. We may or may not ever know the results of that. They are yet to announce an affiliate. They have been dropping hints at what the team name could be. Their latest hint showed a castle under water. Their first name hint has a diamond inside of the 10. These could be in reference to the Vegas Golden Knights. They could be naming the team the Bronze Knights, the Blue Knights, Lake Tahoe Knights, Castles, Citadels, or something else royalty or medieval related. I doubt they would go with Kings, Royals, or Reign as those teams already exist. At the very least I think this could be a hint at a future affiliation with the Vegas Golden Knights. If they are affiliated with the Golden Knights and have a Knights related team name, I think like the Henderson Silver Knights they will have a logo and branding similar to the Vegas Golden Knights. The Vegas Golden Knights current ECHL Affiliate is the Savana Ghost Pirates. They had a one year affiliate agreement for the 2022-23 season and extended it for at least the 2023-24 season. I do not know if their current agreement will continue through the 2024-25 season. If not Lake Tahoe could be the next Vegas Golden Knights ECHL affiliate.
