Today is the first day of the 2024 Sierra Inline Hockey League season. There will only be four teams this season. The last two seasons there was only five teams. One team was eliminated to have more players on each team. The league also did a draft to start the season so the teams are all mixed up now. The season starts today at noon. Games will continue to be every Saturday at noon or 1:00pm. Games are in Carson City at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion.

The season kicks off with a game between Team A and Team B at noon. That will be followed up with a game between Team C (Reno Pond Hockey) and Team D at 1:00pm.

For the last two seasons teams have been really unbalanced. They tried to fix that with the draft this season. Weather has been an issue with the rink since the league started back up following a 2020 hiatus. The rink is outdoors. The league us only permitted to use the rink during the winter season as the pavilion is used for other events during the summer. Inline skates need a dry surface. They do not grip on a wet surface. The roof at the pavilion leaks. Almost every time it snows the rink is unusable. Last season that cause a six week break in the season. The last two seasons there was talk about moving the rink to a more permeant indoor location. That has not happened yet. With the size of the league and the venue issues, the future of the league is defiantly uncertain. We play while we can and we have fun. I am hoping that this season does not have an extended break due to weather. The league is a lot of fun and I am optimistic about the future. I think this season will be fun with a lot of opportunity for growth.
