The International Ice Hockey Federation Wold Junior Championship was earlier this month. The final was between the United States and Sweden. The United States won their sixth World Juniors gold at this tournament. I wanted to do a concept for the tournament final. So I did jersey concepts for the United States and Sweden. The final was one game so I did one jersey concept for each team. If enough people like this concept I might do more concepts for other IIHF events.
The 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship logo is the same for this concept as in real life. The IIHF has a basic template for all of their event logos. Since around 2005 the IIHF has used the shape of their main logo as the center piece for all of their event logos. All of the IIHF event logos follow the same format. The year at the top. The IIHF wordmark and rounded rectangle. Some kind of design incorporated with the rounded rectangle. The event name and location are always on the bottom.
The 2024 IIHF World Juniors were held in Gothenburg Sweden. Some games were played at the 12,044 capacity Scandinavium. Some games were played at the 7,600 capacity Frölundaborg. The Scandinavium is home to Frölunda HC of the Swedish hockey league. The Scandinavium is also home to Redbergslids IK of the Handbollsligan which is a handball league. The Frölundaborg does not have any permeant tenants.
In this concept the IIHF rule is that teams have to use their federation/association primary or secondary logo on the front of their light and dark jerseys for IIHF events outside of the olympics. Third jerseys would be able to have other logos. The Swedish Ice Hockey Association have been using the same three crown logo on their jerseys since 1938. The current primary logo of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association has been used since 2000. Sweden has not had their association logo on any jerseys as the primary logo as far as I can tell. The Swedish colors are blue and yellow. logo is a round logo with a viking ship, waves, three crowns, and the association name in Swedish.
The USA Hockey colors are red, white, and blue. Their primary logo is a stylized USA wordmark that incorporates a star and waving stripes. This logo is currently the USA Hockey secondary logo. From 1994 to 1998 it was part of two USA Hockey alternate logos. In 1998 it became the primary logo. In 2004 it was incorporated into the current primary logo. This logo is seen more often on jerseys and merchandise than the current USA Hockey primary logo.
For this concept the IIHF event logos would go on the right shoulder of every jersey at every IIHF event outside of the olympics. Also for this concept I used the Nike template I have used in my Qatar 2022 x Ice Hockey concept and my FIFA Women’s World Cup x Ice Hockey concept. The IIHF is sponsored by Nike. All teams in the top division use Nike jerseys. The Swedish Ice Hockey Association jersey is yellow and blue. The pattern on the jersey is inspired by viking patterns. On the front is there primary logo. On the shoulders is the event logo and the three crowns logo.
The USA Hockey jersey is blue, white, and red. On the front is the primary logo. On the shoulders are stars. The stars are inspired by the 1970s and 2014 USA Hockey jerseys. The pattern is inspired by the 1960 and 1980 USA Hockey jerseys.
