The Stanley Cup Playoffs continued yesterday with four games. The Winnipeg Jets were looking to tie their series with the Colorado Avalanche. The Nashville Predators were looking to tie their series with the Vancouver Canucks. The New York Rangers had a chance to sweep the Washington Capitals. The Los Angeles Kings had a chance to tie their series with the Oilers. There are only two games scheduled for tonight. The Florida Panthers are looking to close out their series with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Dallas Stars take on the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Winnipeg Jets played the Colorado Avalanche in game four of the their first round series. The avalanche were leading the series 2-1 going into the game. This game was in Colorado. Halfway through the first period, the Avalanche scored the games opening goal. #62 Arturi Lehkonen scored the goal. #37 Casey Mittelstadt got the assist. With six minutes to go in the first period, the Jets tied the game with a goal from #88 Nate Chmidt. His goal was assisted by #22 Mason Appleton and #64 Logan Stanley. The first period ended with the score tied at 1-1.
With eight minutes left in the second period, #13 Valeri Nichushkin scored to give the Avalanche the lead. His goal was assisted by #8 Cale Makar and #29 Nathan MacKinnon. With just under five minutes left in the second period, #8 Cale Makar scored an unassisted goal to give the Avalanche a two goal lead. With under thirty seconds left in the second period, #13 Valeri Nichushkin scored his second goal of the game to give the Avalanche a three goal lead. His goal was assisted by #62 Artturi Lehkonen and #29 Nathan MacKinnon. The score was 4-1 Avalanche going into the third period.
With thirteen seconds left in the game, #13 Valeri Nichushkin scored his third goal of the game to complete his hat trick. His goal was assisted by #96 Mikko Rantanen. The final score was 5-1 Avalanche. The Colorado Avalanche now have a 3-1 series lead.
The Avalanche were propelled to a win after four unanswered goals. The Jets were not in this one. Now they face elimination. The Jets have lost three straight games to the Avalanche. The Jets are not in this series. This series so far has been a complete collapse for the Jets after a solid game one. If the Avalanche win game five they will eliminate the Jets. Game five is a must win for the Jets or their season will be over.

The Vancouver Canucks took on the Nashville Predators in game four of their first round series. The Canucks were leading the series 2-1 going into the game. The game was in Nashville. Three minutes into the game, #6 Brock Boeser scored to give the Canucks the lead. #9 J.T. Miller and #7 Carson Soucy got the assists. Six minutes into the first period, #17 Mark Jankowski scored for the Predators to tie the game. #3 Jeremy Lauzon and #45 Alexandre Carrier got the assists. The score was tied at 1-1 after the first period.
Six minutes into the third period #14 Gustav Nyquist scored for the Predators to take the lead. #90 Ryan O’Reilly got the assist. The score was 2-1 Predators going into the third period.
Less than twenty seconds into the third period, #9 Filip Forsberg scored for the predators to take a two goal lead. His goal was assisted by #59 Roman Josi and #27 Ryan McDonagh. With under three minutes left in the game, #6 Brock Noeser scored his second goal of the game for the Canucks. His goal was assisted by #23 Elias Lindholm and #9 J.T. Miller. #6 Brock Boeser scored to complete his hat trick and tie the game with eight seconds left in the game. #9 T.J. Miller and #40 Elias Pettersson got the assists. The score was 3-3 after regulation time. The game would go into overtime. #23 Elias Lindholm scored the game winning goal just over a minute into overtime. His goal was assisted by #8 Conor Garland and #81 Dakota Joshua. The final score was 4-3 Canucks. The Vancouver Canucks now have a 3-1 series lead.
The Canucks came back down by two goals to win in overtime. The Predators couldn’t hold onto their two goal lead. Things are not looking good for the Predators after losing back to back playoff games on home ice. The Canucks can win the series with a win in game five. The Predators are on the verge of being eliminated. With the next game in Vancouver it will be possible the toughest game of the season so far for the Predators.

The New York Rangers played the Washington Capitals. The Rangers were up in the series 3-0. With a win the Rangers would sweep and eliminate the Washington Capitals. If the Capitals won they would force another game. Less than a minute into the game the Rangers scored. #24 Kaapo Kakko scored an unassisted goal. With five minutes left in the first period, #42 Martin Fehervary scored for the Capitals to tie the game. His goal was assisted by #21 Aliaksei Protas and #17 Dylan Strome. With sixteen second left in the first period, #16 Vincent Trocheck scored for the Rangers to take the lead. His goal was assisted by #93 Mika Zibanejad and #10 Artemi Panarin. The score was 2-1 Rangers after the first period.
With twelve minutes to go in the second period, #29 Hendriz Lapierre scored for the Capitals to tie the game. #27 Alexander Alexeyev got the assist. The score was tied at 2-2 going into the third period.
Four minutes into the third period, #10 Artemi Panarin scored to give the Rangers the lead. #93 Mika Zibanejad and #23 Adam Fox got the assists. With under a minute to go #96 Jack Roslovic scored to put the Rangers up by two goals. His goal was assisted by #13 Alexis Lafrenière and #8 Jacob Trouba. The final score was 4-2 Rangers. With that win the New York Rangers have swept the Washington Capitals. The Washington Capitals have now been eliminated from the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Capitals trailed throughout this game. They could never get the lead. They were just not up for the challenge. The Rangers lost their lead a couple of times. They ultimately won the game in the end. This was not a strong test for the Rangers. Will they be prepared for their next opponent? The Capitals are the first team eliminated from the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. They are the first team to get swept in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Will they be the only team to get swept this year? They are the only not win a game after qualifying for the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Capitals did not look like they were ready for playoff hockey. They were certainly not up to the task of defeating the Rangers.
The New York Rangers have advanced to the second round. They are the first team to do so. They will play the winner of the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders series.
The Edmonton Oilers played the Los Angeles Kings in game four of their first round series. The Oilers were up 2-1 in the series going into the game. The game was in Los Angeles. Neither team scored in the first period. The score was 0-0 after the first period.
with eight minutes to go in the second period, the Oilers took the lead. #2 Evan Bouchard scored the go ahead goal for the Oilers. #29 Leon Draisaitl and #97 Connor McDavid got the assists. The score was 1-0 Oilers going into the third period.
Neither team scored in the third period. The final score was 1-0 Oilers. The Edmonton Oilers now have a 3-1 series lead.
This game is wild. It was not what anyone saw coming in this series. I don’t think anyone thought the Oilers had the defensive capabilities to win a game like this. There is a lot of talk about their goaltending and defensive issues that has been goin on for years. This is the biggest shock of the playoffs so far. Not that the Oilers won the game. Not that the Oilers beat the Kings. The shock comes from no one seeing that the Oilers could win without their powerhouse offense. This is scary for the rest of the league. The Oilers can outscore teams and now they have shown they can win with their defense and goaltending. #74 Stuart Skinner of the Edmonton Oilers got the first shutout of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Going into game five the Oilers will have the chance to eliminate the Kings. For the Kings it’s win or go home in Edmonton. Right now it looks like there is nothing the Kings can do to win this series.
