The Stanley Cup Playoffs continued yesterday with only two games. The Dallas Stars took on the Vegas Golden Knights in game five of that series. That series was tied. The Edmonton Oilers looked to eliminated the Los Angeles Kings in game five of that series. There is only one game tonight. The Boston Bruins failed to eliminate the Toronto Maple Leafs in game five. Game six of their series is tonight.
The Dallas Stars took on the Vegas Golden Knights in game five of their first round series. Their series was tied at 2-2 going into the game. The winner of this game would take the series lead. This game was in Dallas. Four minutes into the game, the Vegas Golden Knights took the lead. #61 Mark Stone scored for the Golden Knights. His goal was assisted by #15 Noah Hanifin and #9 Jack Eichel. Just over a minute later, the Stars tied the game. #63 Evgenii Dadonov scored for the Stars. #11 Logan stankoven and #53 Wyatt Johnston got the assists. With twelve minutes to go in the first period, #95 Matt Duchene scored to give the Stars the lead His goal was assisted by #53 Wyatt Johnston and #91 Tyler Seguin. With seven minutes left in the first period, #28 William Carrier scored for the Golden Knights to tie the game. His goal was assisted by #49 Ivan Barbashev and #3 Brayden McNabb. The score was tied up at 2-2 after the first period.
Neither team scored in the second period. The score was still tied at 2-2 going into the third period. With three minutes left in the game, #21 Jason Robertson scored to give the Stars the lead. His goal was assisted by #4 Miro Heiskanen and #14 Jamie Benn. The final score was 3-2 Stars. The Dallas Stars now have a 3-2 Series lead.
There was a lot of offense in the first period but it slowed down as the game went on. Both teams lost leads at some point during the game. A late goal propelled the Stars to a win here. This was the third game in this series that was decided by one goal. The Stars will have the opportunity to advance with a win in the next game. The Golden Knights back are against the wall. They are facing elimination. The Golden Knights will have to win back to back games to win this series. They did that to start this series. They can do it again. They have lost three straight since those back to back wins. They are on the verge of a breakdown. This series does look like it will go to seven games. It is close and will likely come down to the wire.

The Edmonton Oilers took on the Los Angeles Kings in game five of their first round series. The Oilers were leading the series 3-1 going into the game. If the Oilers won, they would eliminate the Kings. If the Kings won, they would force a game six. This game was in Edmonton. The Oilers got the lead and they didn’t let up. After game two it looked like the series was going to be a lot closer than it ended up being. After a huge game three blowout the Oilers were just unmatched by the Kings. The game four defeat for the Kings was the realization that the Kings wouldn’t come back in this series. The Kings offense was absent from two of the five games. The Oilers so far are meeting expectations. Round two will probably be the same level of competition for the Oilers. As long as they continue to play consistently, they should make it past whoever their second round opponent is.
The Edmonton Oilers have advanced to the second round. They will play the winner of the Vancouver Canucks and Nashville Predators series.
The Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Islanders, Winnipeg Jets, and Los Angeles Kings have been eliminated from the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The New York Rangers, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, and Edmonton Oilers have advanced to the second round.
The Boston Bruins take on the Toronto Maple Leafs in game six of their first round series. The Bruins lead the series 3-2. This game is in Toronto. Puck drop is set for 5:00 PM. If the Bruins win, they will eliminate the Maple Leafs. If the Maple Leafs win, they will force a game seven.
