The Stanley Cup Playoffs are still going on. I have not been able to get one of these posts done in days due to traveling. A lot has happened since my last post. The Eastern Conference Finals matchup is set. One team is in the Western Conference Finals. The Other Western Conference Finals team will be decided in game seven. There is only one round two series going on. The between the Florida Panthers and Boston Bruins has been decided. The between the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes has been decided. The series between the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche has been decided. The round two series left is the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers series. Game seven of that series is tonight.
The Florida Panthers played the Boston Bruins in the second round. The Florida Panthers beat the Tampa Bay Lighting to reach the second round. The Boston Bruins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs to advance to the second round. These two teams played in the first round last season. This series was a rematch. The Bruins won game one 5-1. It was not looking good for the Panthers after game one. The Panthers bounced back in game two to win 6-1. After two games the series was anyones. Hot off of game two the Panthers scored another six goals to win 6-2 in game three. The Panthers scored three goals in a row to win game four after the Bruins were leading by two goals. In a close game five, the Bruins found a way to keep their one goal lead after scoring their second goal of the game in the second period. In game six, the Panthers scored with under two minutes to go in the game to win the game and the series. The Florida Panthers eliminated the Boston Bruins. The Panthers won that series 4-2. The Panthers have advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals.
The final three games were all decided by one goal. The only fight in this series was in game two. That was the last fight in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. This series started out as blowout after blowout. That was followed by close game after close game. The Bruins wanted revenge. They had the best record ever in the NHL heading into the playoffs last season. They almost won that series only to three straight games to the Panthers. During this season they did not let the Panthers win against them. It looked promising after game one. Then the Panthers kicked it up a notch. In the end history repeated itself here.
The Dallas Stars took on the Colorado Avalanche in the second round. The Dallas Stars beat the Vegas Golden Knights in round one to reach the second round. The Colorado Avalanche beat the Winnipeg Jets to reach the second round. This series started off with a huge comeback from the Avalanche to win game one 4-3. The Stars tied the series with a 5-3 win in game two. Then the stars won back to back games in Colorado 4-1 and 5-1 to win three games in a row. The Avalanche won game five 5-3 to force game six. The Stars won game six 2-1 in the second overtime.
The Avalanche came close to forcing a game seven but they could not find a way to win at home. The Stars went out there and took over game two, three, and four. There was only two one goal games in the whole series. Both teams struggled to win in this series. If one team was leading by three goals they were able to win. If it was a close game, both teams struggled to find a way to win. The only exception was game one but even then when the game got close, both teams struggled. That is something to watch out for with the Dallas Stars moving forward. What this series comes down to is that the Avalanche doomed themselves by not finding home wins.
The New York Rangers played the Carolina Hurricanes in round two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The New York Rangers swept the Washington Capitals in round one. The Carolina Hurricanes beat the New York Islanders in round one. The Rangers won game one 4-3 after holding on to their lead. The Hurricanes scored late in that game but it was not enough. In game two, a third period goal from the Rangers forced overtime. They found a way to score in double overtime to win 4-3. In game three, the Hurricanes were able to tie the game late in the third period to force overtime. The Rangers scored early in overtime to win game three 3-2. The Hurricanes won game four 4-3 and force a game five thanks to a late third period goal. The Hurricanes won game five 4-1 to force a game six. The Rangers won game six 5-3. The New York Rangers won the series 4-2. The New York Rangers advanced to the Eastern Conference finals. The Carolina Hurricanes have been eliminated.
This series was close. Four out of the six games were one goal games. The Hurricanes avoided being swept. This was one of the more entertaining series so far. After game three it looked like the Rangers were unbeatable. That was not the case. The Hurricanes won back to back games to keep the series going. The Rangers kept finding ways to win.
The Vancouver Canucks are taking on the Edmonton Oilers in round two. This series is the only one going on right now. The winner will play the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Finals. The Canucks won game one 5-4. The Oilers won game two 4-3 in overtime. The Canucks won game three 4-3. The Oilers won game four 3-2. The Canucks won game five 3-2. The Oilers won game six 5-1 to force game seven. It has been a wild series and it is not over yet.
The Vancouver Canucks take on the Edmonton Oilers in game seven of their second round series. The series is tied at 3-3. The winner will advance to the Western Conference Finals. This game is in Vancouver. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Will the Canucks reach the Western Conference Finals for the first time in over a decade? Will the Oilers complete the comeback? Which of the final two Canadian teams will make the Western Conference finals?
