The Dallas Stars defeated the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado avalanche to reach the Western Conference finals. The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks to reach the Western Conference Finals. This was the first game of the series. This game was in Dallas. Neither team scored in the first period. The score was tied at 0-0 after the first period.

Just under a minute into the second period, #29 Leon Draisaitl scored to give the Edmonton Oilers the lead. His goal was assisted by #27 Brett Kulak and #18 Zach Hyman. Neither team scored in the first overtime period. The game was still tied at 2-2 going into the second overtime. Thirty seconds into the second overtime, #97 Connor McDavid scored for the Oilers to win the game. His goal was assisted by #2 Evan Bouchard and #93 Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The final score was 3-2 Oilers. The Edmonton Oilers now have a 1-0 series lead in the Western Conference Finals.

This was a close game. This is looking like it will be a close series. Double overtime in game one is crazy. The Oilers had a two goal lead. They weren’t able to keep it. The Stars were able to come back and tie the game. The Oilers did find the back of the net in double overtime. This game saw the Oilers ability to not hold on to a lead. It also saw the Stars ability to come back in a game. Despite the Oilers not being able to hold onto their lead, they still shut the Stars down for most of the game. Both teams came really close to ending the game in the first overtime. In the end the Oilers had the edge in this game. The Stars struggles to win close games continue.

Game two of the Western Conference Finals will be on Saturday, May 25th at 5:00 PM. That game will be in Dallas.
