The Stanley Cup Playoffs continued last night with one game. It was game five of the Western Conference Finals. That series is between the Dallas Stars and the Edmonton Oilers. The Western Conference Finals were tied going into yesterdays game. There is one game happening tonight. Tonights game is game six of the Eastern Conference Finals. That series is between the New York Rangers and the Florida Panthers. The Panthers currently lead the Eastern Conference Finals. They will have a chance to win the series with a win tonight.
The Dallas Stars took on the Edmonton Oilers for game five of the Western Conference Finals. The series was tied at 2-2 heading into the game. The Edmonton Oilers won game one and game four. The Dallas Stars won game two and game three. This game was in Dallas. With five minutes left in the first period, #93 Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored to give the Oilers the lead. His goal was assisted by #97 Connor McDavid. The score was 1-0 Oilers after the first period.
Just over a minute into the second period, #93 Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored again to give the Oilers a two goal lead. His goal was assisted by #29 Leon Draisaitl and #2 Evan Bouchard. With fourteen minutes left in the second period, #86 Philip Broberg scored to give the Oilers a three goal lead. His goal was assisted by #19 Adam Henrique and #91 Evander Kane. The score was 3-0 Oilers heading into the third period.
With just under six minutes left in the game, #53 Wyatt Johnston scored for the Stars to bring the lead down to two goals. His goal was assisted by #55 Thomas Harley and #11 Logan Stankoven. The final score was 3-1 Oilers. The Edmonton Oilers now have a 3-2 series lead in the Western Conference Finals.
The Oilers are now one win away from reaching the 2024 Stanley Cup Finals. They are not there yet. They still need to win one game out of the possible two Western Conference Finals games. The Oilers have a lot of momentum on their side. Game six is a home game. It is the Oilers series to lose now. The Stars are still in it. They are a tough team. They have won games in Edmonton in this series. It should be a tough and close end to this series.
