The Canadian Hockey League Just finished the Memorial Cup Playoffs on Sunday. The Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, and the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League make up the Canadian Hockey League. Each year they send their top teams to compete for the CHLs Memorial Cup. The Memorial cup is a tournament with a round robin stage and an elimination stage. It is one of the most unique playoff formats in all of ice hockey. To have a post season tournament after all three leagues have a playoffs is kind of crazy.
The London Knights defeated the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League Finals. The Knights swept that series 4-0. The London Knights are the 2024 OHL Champions. In four series they only lost two games. This was their first OHL Championship since 2016. It was their fifth OHL Championship. This qualified them to play in the Memorial Cup. This was their first time in the Memorial Cup since 2016.
The Drummondville Voltigeurs played the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in the QMJHL finals. The Drummondville Voltigeurs won the series 4-0. The Drummondville Voltigeurs are the 2024 QMJHL Champions. In four series they only lost three games. This was their first QMJHL Championship since 2009. This was their second QMJHL Championship. They advanced to the CHL Memorial Cup. This was their first Memorial Cup since 2009.
The Moose Jaw Warriors took on the Portland Winterhawks in the WHL Championship. The Moose Jaw Warriors defeated the Portland Winterhawks 4-0. This sweep would mark the first time in CHL history that all three league finals were swept. The Moose Jaw Warriors are the 2024 WHL Champions. In four series they only lost four games. This was their first ever WHL Championship. They advanced to the CHL Memorial Cup for the first time ever.
The 2024 edition of the CHL Memorial Cup was the 104th tournament. The Memorial Cup was hosted in the United States for the first time since 1998. This was the first time the Memorial Cup was hosted in Michigan. The tournament was held in Saginaw Michigan at the 5,201 capacity Dow Event Center. The defending champions Kamloops Blazers after failing to qualify for the playoffs. They came in last place in the Western Conference of the WHL.

The London Knights won the round robin stage with a record of 3-0. As a result they advanced directly into the championship game. The Saginaw Spirit came in second during the round robin stage with a record of 2-1. The Moose Jaw Warriors came in third in the round robin stage with a record of 1-2. The Saginaw Spirit and Moose Jaw Warriors both advanced to the semifinal game. The Drummondville Voltigeurs went 0-3 and were eliminated in the round robin stage.
The Moose Jaw Warrior of the WHL took on the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL in the Memorial Cup Semifinal game. The score was tied at 1-1 after the first period. Saginaw scored five goals in the second period to take a 6-1 lead into the third period. The final score was 7-1 Saginaw. The Saginaw Spirit advanced to the Memorial Cup Final. The Moose Jaw Warriors were eliminated.
The London Knights of the OHL took on the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL in the CHL Memorial Cup Final. Saginaw took a 2-0 lead after the first period. Both teams scored in the second period. The Score was 3-1 Saginaw going into the third period. London scored twice in the third period but it was not enough. The Saginaw Spirit was the game 4-3. The game winning goal was scored with twenty one seconds on the clock. The Saginaw Spirit are the Memorial Cup Champions. The London Knights have been eliminated. This was their first time winning the Memorial Cup. This is the first time since 2008 that a team from the United States has won the Memorial Cup.
