The Arizona Coyotes have moved to Salt Lake City Utah. The new Utah NHL team will go by Utah Hockey Club for the 2024-25 season. Voting on the name is still going on. It is being reported that the name and branding will be replaced after the upcoming hockey season. Hockey fans from around the world are keeping a close eye on every branding move the team makes. Their latest move has been to release jerseys. With no warning the Utah Hockey Club have released Jerseys for the 2024-25 season.
The Utah Hockey Club colors are blue, black, and white. Some fans have taken to calling the blue “Mormon blue”. The jerseys themselves are not too complex. The Utah Hockey Club 2025-25 Home jersey is black with blue and white stripes. The Utah Hockey Club Away jersey is white with black and blue stripes. Both jerseys have a diagonal “Utah” wordmark logo on the front. Neither jersey have any of the Utah Hockey Club logos. What Utah is doing is very reminiscent of the Pittsburgh Penguins inaugural jerseys they wore during the 1967-68 season. I do like what they are doing with the jerseys. I know a lot of fans do not like wordmarks or words in the logos on the jerseys. I would like to see them move more towards the Utah Jazz colors. There are plenty of blue and red teams in the NHL. The Jazz just released new jerseys. The colors of light blue, dark blue, purple, black, and white would have been better than just black, blue, and white. Purple needs to make a return to the NHL. The LA Kings might do that with their upcoming rebrand. The Columbus Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Winnipeg Jets all had jerseys during the 2023-24 season with blue on blue or black and blue. The Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers are the only other team in the NHL that had diagonal wordmark logos on their jerseys for the 2023-24 season. Five other NHL teams had a wordmark logo on their jerseys for the 2023-24 season
The official names for the Utah Hockey Club colors are Rock Black, Salt White, and Mountain Blue. I do like the idea of calling it Moron Blue. Some fans are upset as the Arizona Coyotes brand was one of the best in all of sports and replacing it is a brand that is not even fully thought out yet. There have also been comparisons of the Utah Hockey Club to the Winnipeg Ice of the WHL. I think the owner is or was a Penguins fan. The Utah Jazz changed their colors to black and yellow before changing again, and not the Utah Hockey Club brand has a lot of similarities with the Pittsburgh Penguins original branding. It seems like the fans in Utah are excited.
