The Stanley Cup Playoffs continued last night. It was game five of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers. The Panthers were leading the series going into last nights game. They won the first three games in the series. The Oilers won game four to force a game five. The Panthers had the chance to clinch the series. Game five was in Florida. The Florida Panthers were trying to win the Stanley Cup. The Edmonton Oilers were trying to force a game six.

The Florida Panthers took on the Edmonton Oilers in game five of the 2024 Stanley Cup Finals. This was the third game of the series in Florida. The Panthers won game one 3-0, game two 4-1, and game three 4-3. The Oilers won game four 8-1 to force a game give. The Panthers had a chance to win the Stanley Cup. The Panthers had a chance to eliminate the Edmonton Oilers. If the Panthers won the Stanley Cup it would also be their first time as Stanley Cup Champions in their thirty year history. There were a lot of questions going into this game. How would the Panthers respond after getting blown out? Could the Oilers keep the series going? Would the Oilers play the same as in game four? Would the Panthers win the close out the series? Would the physical play intensify? How would the goalies do? Would a home game help the Panthers? Could the Oilers win on the road in this series?

Six minutes into the game, #28 Connor Brown scored a short handed goal to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead. His goal was unassisted. The Oilers had a 1-0 lead after the first period.
Two minutes into the second period, #18 Zach Hyman scored on the powerplay to give the Oilers a two goal lead. His goal was assisted by #2 Evan Bouchard and #97 Connor McDavid.
Five minutes into the second period, #97 Connor McDavid scored to give the Oilers a three goal lead. His goal was assisted by #37 Warren Foegele and #2 Evan Bouchard.
With thirteen minutes left in the second period, #19 Matthew Tkachuk scored for the PAnthers. His goal brought the lead back down to two goals. His goal was assisted by #17 Evan Rodrigues.
With eight minutes left in the second period, #90 Corey Perry scored to give the Oilers a three goal lead again. His goal was assisted by #97 Connor McDavid and #2 Evan Bouchard.
Under thirty seconds later, Evan Rodrigues scored to get the Panthers back to within two goals. His goal was assisted by #62 Brandon Montour and #9 Sam Bennett. The Oilers had a 4-2 lead heading into the third period.
Five minutes into the third period, #91 Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored for the Panthers. His goal brought the lead down to one goal. His goal was assisted by #19 Matthew Tkachuk.
With nineteen seconds left in the game, #97 Connor McDavid scored to give the Oilers a two goal lead. His goal was unassisted. His empty net goal sealed the win for the Oilers. The final score was 5-3 Oilers. The Florida Panthers now lead the Stanley Cup Finals 3-2.



The Oilers opened up the scoring with a short handed goal. With every early Oilers lead their is always a worry that they will lose the lead. In this case they kept the one goal lead going into the second period. An early powerplay goal in the second period put the game out of the reach of the Panthers. The Panthers played catch up the rest of the game. The empty net goal at the end of the game was crazy. #19 Matthew Tkachuk made an amazing diving save only for Connor McDavid to get the puck and score. All of the momentum in this series seems to be on the Oilers side right now. The Panthers look like they ran into a brick wall. This has been the most entertaining Stanley Cup Finals that we have gotten in a while. The Oilers have the momentum with the series heading back to Edmonton. The Oilers backs are against the wall but the Panthers have not been able to shut the Oilers down like they did in the first two games.


Game six of the 2024 Stanley Cup Finals will be on Friday, June 21st, 2024. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:00 PM. That game will be in Edmonton. The Panthers will have another chance to win the series and the Stanley Cup in game six.





The Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Islanders, Winnipeg Jets, Los Angeles Kings, Nashville Predators, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vegas Golden Knights, Carolina Hurricanes, Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks, New York Rangers, and Dallas Stars have been eliminated from the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The New York Rangers, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins, and Dallas Stars advanced to the second round.
The New York Rangers and Florida Panthers advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers advanced to the Western Conference Finals.
The Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers have advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals.
