Archery at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad continued today. Today was the women’s team event. Twelve teams participated in a single elimination bracket. Each round was best of five sets. Each set consists of three arrows per archer. The top four ranked teams got a bye into the quarterfinals. South Korea won this event at Tokyo 2020.
South Korea were ranked first. China were ranked second. Mexico were ranked third. India were ranked fourth. The host nation France were ranked fifth. Germany were ranked sixth. Indonesia were ranked seventh. The United States were ranked eighth. Chinese Taipei were ranked nineth. Malaysia were ranked tenth. Great Britain were ranked eleventh. The Netherlands were ranked twelfth.
In the Preliminary round, The United States lost to Chinese Taipei. They tied the first set. Chinese Taipei won the second set by just three points. Chineses Taipei won the third set by just six points to upset the United States. The Netherlands eliminated the host nation France three sets to zero in a big upset. Germany swept Great Britain three sets to zero. Indonesia eliminated Malaysia three sets to one.
In the quarterfinals, South Korea beat Chinese Taipei three sets to one. The Netherlands swept India three sets to zero. That was the biggest upset of the day. Mexico defeated Germany by winning back to back sets after tying the first set. China beat Indonesia by winning back to back sets after tying the first set.
In the semifinals, South Korea defeated the Netherlands three sets to two. China defeated Mexico three sets to one. South Korea would take on china in the gold medal match. Mexico would take on the Netherlands in the bronze medal match.
In the bronze medal match, Mexico won the first set by seven points. The Netherlands won the second set by two points. Mexico won the third set by four points and the fifth set by five points. Mexico won the bronze medal match three sets to one. Mexico won the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 archery women’s team event. This is the first time Mexico has won a medal at this event. This is Mexicos first archery medal at the Olympics. This is also their first medal at Paris 2024.
In the gold medal match, South Korea won the first set by three points and the second set by one point. China won the third set by three points and the fourth set by two points. South Korea won the fifth set and the gold medal by just two points. South Korea won the gold medal at the Paris 2024 archery women’s team event. China won silver at the Paris 2024 archery women’s team event. This is the tenth time in a row that South Korea have won the gold medal in the archery women’s team event. They have won ten straight. No other nation has won gold at this event. This is the fifth time China won silver at this event.
The Paris 2024 archery men’s team event is tomorrow. It starts at 12:30 am PST. They will have the round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and medal matches tomorrow.
