Soccer at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad continued on Saturday. There was eight matches. All eight of the matches were for the men’e tournament. There were no matches on Friday. Argentina played Iraq. the Dominican Republic played Spain. Ukraine played Morocco. Uzbekistan played Egypt. New Zealand played the United States. Israel played Paraguay. France played Guinea. Japan played Mali. Soccer continues on Sunday with the Women’s tournament. There is an update on the Canada situation. The Canadian head coach along with two other assistant coaches have been given a year ban by FIFA. The Canadian head coach was already sent home by the Canadian Olympic Committee. In addition to their year bans, Canada will be deducted six points at Paris 2024. That will make it almost impossible for them to advance past the group stage. All teams have nine possible points in the group stage. Canada would have to win both of their remaining games to finish with three points. Three points will likely not be enough to advance into the knockout stage.

The United States won the game 4-1. This was a historic game. It was the first goals and win since 2008. It was the first time the United States scored four goals in a single game.
