Basketball at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad continued Sunday. There was four total games In the men’s tournament, South Sudan played Puerto Rico and the United States played Serbia. In the women’s tournament, Spain played China and Serbia played Puerto Rico. Basketball continues with another four games on Monday.

South Sudan played Puerto Rico in a men’s Group A game. Puerto Rico was leading 20-28 after the first quarter. Puerto Rico was leading 54-48 at halftime. South Sudan was leading 71-69 going into the fourth quarter. South Sudan won the game 90-79. South Sudan had a strong come from behind win. They were able to shut down Puerto Rico in the fourth quarter which set them up for the win. South Sudan will play the United States next. Puerto Rico will play Serbia next.

Serbia played the United States. I did a game preview and review for this one. It was a men’s Group C match. The United States led the game 25-20 after the first quarter. The United states were leading 58-49 at halftime. The United States were leading 84-65 heading into the fourth quarter. The United States won the game 110-84. Strong win for the United States. They are the first team to break 100 points in a single game so far in this tournament. Serbia will play Puerto Rico next. The United States will play South Sudan next.

Spain played China. This was a women’s Group A match. China had a 22-13 lead after the first quarter. China had a had a 37-33 lead at halftime. China had a 59-53 lead going into the final quarter. The score was tied at 76-76 after the fourth quarter. Spain won the game 90-89 in overtime. Spain fought their way back in this one. China was inconsistent with their offensive play. Spain will play Puerto Rico next. China will play Serbia next.

Serbia played Puerto Rico. This was a women’s Group A game. Serbia had a 23-15 after the first quarter. Serbia had a 43-26 lead at halftime. Canada was leading 55-36 going into the fourth quarter. Serbia won the game 58-55. Puerto Rico had a huge come back in the fourth quarter. They held Serbia to just three points in the fourth quarter. Those three points would end up being the game winning points. Serbia play China next. Puerto Rico play Spain next.

In the men’s standings, Australia lead Group A. Germany lead Group B. The United States lead Group C. Canada, France, and South Sudan are in positions to advance to the knockout stage. Greece and Puerto Rico are in the top two third place spots right now. The top two third place spots will also advance.

In the women’s standings, Serbia lead Group A. Spain are in a position to advance to the knockout stage. Group B and Group C have not played yet.
