Soccer at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad continued on Sunday. There were six matches. All six of the matches were for the women’s tournament. There were no matches on Monday. New Zealand played Colombia. Brazil played Japan. Australia played Zambia. Spain played Nigeria. France played Canada. The United States played Germany
New Zealand played Colombia. Colombia had a 1-0 lead at halftime. Colombia scored in the 72′ minute to make it 2-0. The final score was 2-0. New Zealand play France next. Colombia play Canada next.
Brazil played Japan. Brazil got two yellow cards in the first half. The score was tied at 0-0 going into the second half. Brazil took the lead in the 56′ minute. Japan got a red card in the 71′ minute. Japan scored tow goals in extra time of the first half to win the game. The final score was 2-1 Japan. Brazil play Spain next. Japan play Nigeria next.
Australia played Zambia. Six total goals were scored in the first half. Zambia scored a minute into the match. Australia tied it in the 7′ minute. Zambia took the lead in the 21′ minute. Zambia took a two goal lead in the 33′ minute. Australia cut the lead down to one goal in the 35′ minute. Zambia retook their lead in extra time of the first half. The score was 4-2 Zambia going into the second half. Zambia scored again in the 56′ minute. In the 58′ minute Australia scored on an own goal. A goal was called back after video review right after. In the 65′ minute Australia scored on a penalty kick. Zambia got a yellow card in the 77′ minute. Australia tied the game on a penalty pick in the 78′ minute. Australia got a yellow card in the 87′ minute. Australia took the lead with a goal in the 90′ minute. Absolutely wild game. The final score was 6-5 Australia. I think this is the highest scoring game of soccer at Paris 2024. Zambia, and Japan have now scored five goals in a single match. Australia have now scored the most goals in a single match with six. Australia play the United States next. Zambia play Germany next.
Spain played Nigeria. Nigeria got a yellow card in the 37′ minute. The game was tied at 0-0 at halftime. Spain scored the games only goal in the 85′ minute. The final score was 1-0 Spain. Spain play Brazil next. Nigeria play Japan next.
France played Canada. France scored in the 42′ minute. Canada got a yellow card in extra time of the first half. The score was 1-0 France at halftime. Canada tied the game in the 58′ minute. France got a yellow card in the 76′ minute. Canada scored in extra time to take the lead. The final score was 2-1 Canada. France play New Zealand next. Canada play Colombia next.
The United States played Germany. Check out my full game review if you have not. The United states were leading 3-1 at halftime. The final score was 4-1 United States. The United States play Australia next. Germany play Zambia next.
The United States and Spain have clinched spots in the knockout round. France, Germany, and Japan are also in spots to advance to the knockout round. Brazil and Australia are also in positions to advance as the top two third place teams. Canada is still in it. Despite a six point deduction, a win could put them in the top two spots or they could move up in the third place rankings.
