Basketball at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad continued Sunday. There was four total games. All of the games were in the women’s tournament. Nigeria played Australia. Germany played Belgium. Canada played France. The United States played Japan. Basketball continues with another four games on Tuesday.

Nigeria played Australia. It was a Group B match. Nigeria was leading 19=8-17 after the first quarter. Nigeria was leading 41-28. Nigeria had a thirteen point lead at halftime. Australia held Nigeria to ten points in the third quarter. Australia had brought the lead back down to four points. The score was 51-47 going into the final quarter. The final score was 75-62 Nigeria. Nigeria will play France next. Australia will play Canada next.

Germany played Belgium. Germany had a fourteen point lead after the first quarter. The score was 25-11 after the first quarter. Germany expanded their lead to twenty one points in the second quarter. The score was 46-25 at halftime. Belgium outscored Germany in the second half by three points. It was not enough to take the lead. The score was 60-42 going into the final quarter. Belgium outscored Germany again in the fourth quarter. This time by just four points. The Final score was 83-69 Germany. Germany won the game with a fourteen point lead. Germany will play Japan next. Belgium will play the United states next.

Canada played France. Canada had a three point lead after the first quarter. The score was 18-15 Canada. France held Canada to just two points in the second quarter. That is the lowest any team have scored in a single quarter so far in this tournament. France was able to get a eighteen point lead before halftime. The score was 38-20 France at halftime. Canada only having fifteen points at halftime is crazy. Canada was able to get the lead back down to seventeen in the third quarter. Canada outscored France by one point in the third quarter. The score was 53-36 France going into the fourth quarter. The final score was 75-54 France. Canada play Australia next. France play Nigeria next. Canadas score of 54 beats out Puerto Ricos score of 55 for the lowest score by any team in the men’s or women’s basketball tournaments at Paris 2024.

The United States played Japan. Check out my full game review for this one if you have not yet. The United states was leading 50-39 at halftime. The final score was 102-76 United States. Japan did not lead at any point in this game. The United States play Belgium next. Japan play Germany next.

In the women’s standings, Serbia lead Group A. France lead Group B. The United States lead Group C. Spain, Nigeria, and Germany are in positions to clinch knockout stage spots. China and Australia are in positions to advance as the top two third place teams.
