I am back with my next post in my 2024 Conceptober series. Yesterday I put out my concept for the Dallas Stars Retro Revival Jersey. The prompt for day two was a graffiti jersey. The theme I was thinking was street art. I actually did a lot of drawing around street art in high school. What I like most about graffiti is it’s raw expression. Graffiti mostly exists as art outside of the confines of traditional art forms. Graffiti simultaneously exists as an art rejected by society while also being accepted by society. When graffiti is put into traditional art forms, people love it. When graffiti is done without permission that same society rejects it. Often time graffiti artists hide in the shadows with their art work destined to be destroyed. A lot this can make it as pure of an expressional art form as any.

Back to the wheel of names. This time Vancouver won the spin. They will get the graffiti jersey.

I am not familiar with street art in Vancouver or in Canada. It is one of those things that is hard to understand without being there. This jersey in not inspired by any street art in Vancouver. This is my street art take on a jersey. This concept is meant to be more of a fashion jersey than worn on the ice. I think there is a lot going on in this design. Too much so for an on ice jersey. This jersey is inspired by multiple Vancouver Canucks jerseys. The street are and spay paint inspired elements make it come together well. The jersey is blue, green, and tan. On the front is the Vancouver Canucks logo. I did recolor the logo. I added additional elements to make it look more like street art. A Vancouver wordmark is also on the front of their jersey like their old jerseys used to be. On the shoulders is VC for Vancouver Canucks. As a concept or artwork this jersey is nice. As a fashion jersey this is great. As an ice jersey it does not work.
