The Tahoe Knight Monsters take on the Utah Grizzlies in back to back games this weekend. All three games are in West Valley City, Utah at the Maverick Center. These are the first ever away games for the Tahoe Knight Monsters. The Maverick Center was built for the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City. The first game of this series will be on Saturday, November 9th at 6:10 PM. The second game of this series will be on Sunday, November 10th at 2:10 PM. Neither team will play before these games. Both teams have played five games. They are only separated in the standings by one point. The Utah Grizzlies started out in 1994 as the Denver Grizzlies of the International Hockey League. In 1994 the Salt Lake Golden Eagles of the IHL (who had been around since 1969) were sold and became the Detroit Vipers. The Denver Grizzlies then moved to Utah and became the Utah Grizzlies. The Utah Grizzlies originally played in IHL at the Delta Center. The Delta Center is now home to the Utah Jazz of the NBA and the Utah Hockey Club of the NHL. In 2001 the Utah Grizzlies joined the AHL. In 2005 the Utah Grizzlies went dormant. New ownership came in a revived the team in the ECHL that same year. The Grizzlies won two titles in the IHL. They won one divisional title in the ECHL. The Grizzlies are celebrating their 30th anniversary this season. The Utah Grizzlies are in the ECHL Western Conference Mountain Division with the Tahoe Knight Monsters. The Utah Grizzlies are the ECHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche. They may move back to the AHL and become the affiliate of the Utah Hockey Club.
