The Ice Raiders of the Mountain West Hockey League have relocated to Reno.
The Ice Raiders previously played in Vacaville. They were the NorCal Ice Raiders. Now they are the Reno Ice Raiders. Last time our area had a hockey team was the Tahoe Icemen of the Western States Hockey League. That was a junior team that played in Lake Tahoe. I think it would be cool to have a Reno Tahoe rivalry. Bring back the Icemen as a Mountain West Hockey League team.
The MWHL is an armature hockey league. The level of play is close to tier 2 or 3 college. It’s kind of like one level above the highest level of the Reno Ice adult league. If you have seen the show Letterkenny, it’s like the league their local team plays in. If you have seen the movie slapshot it’s like that except the players don’t get paid. If you have seen the movie goon, sometimes it’s like that. The Ice Raiders will be playing their home games at Reno Ice. I don’t know how many games they will be playing. I don’t have a lot of information on the team at the moment. What I do know is that Reno has a team for the first time since the 90s. I’m excited for it. I hope you are too.
