The Women’s Ice Hockey tournament at the XXIV Olympic Winter games continued. Two of the Quarterfinal games were played. The United States played the Czech Republic. Canada played Sweden. Coming up tonight will be Quarterfinals action with ROC (Russia) and Switzerland. Finland and Japan will also be playing.
The United States beat the Czech Republic 4-1. USA will be advancing to the Semi-finals. I will do an in depth game review post later.
Canada blew out Sweden. Canada started off the scoring 3 minutes into the game. Canada scored 4 goals in the first period. 5 goals in the second period and 2 goals in the third period. It was an absolute onslaught.
Canada finally got a shutout. Swedens tournament is over. Canada will move on to the Semi-finals. I believe they will play the winners of the ROC (Russia) Switzerland game.
Here are the final group standings. Canada won Group A. Finland was able to move into third. Japan won Group B.
Below are what the Quarterfinals look like so far. The United States and Canada will be moving on to the Semi-finals. The Czech Republic and Sweden have been eliminated.
Will Japan roll through Finland? Will Finland show that they are still medal contenders? Will ROC (Russia) find a way to end their scoring troubles? Will Switzerland upset ROC (Russia)?
