Day 18 | XXIV Olympic Winter Games | Beijing 2022

We are now 18 days into the XXIV Olympic Winter Games being held in Beijing China. There are now one day left in the 2022 Olympics. Bobsleigh, Cross-Country Skiing, Curling, Figure Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Ice Hockey, and Speed Skating continued. Medals were handed out for Bobsleigh, Cross-Country Skiing, Curling, Figure Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Ice Hockey, and Speed Skating.


Bobsleigh. In Bobsleigh they had the 4-man Heats 1 and 2. They also had the 2-woman heats 3 and 4. In the 2-woman competition, Germany took home gold and silver. Laura Nolte won gold. Mariama Jamanka won silver. The United States Elana Meyers Taylor won bronze. Earlier in Bobsleigh Elana Meyers Taylor won silver in the Women’s Monobob. Bobsleigh will continue tonight.


Cross-Country Skiing. Due to weather they changed the start time for the Women’s 30km Mass Start Free. In Cross-Country Skiing they had the Men’s 50km Mass Start Free. ROC (Russia) Alexander Bolshunov won gold. ROC (Russia) Ivan Yakimushkin won silver. Norways Simen Hegstad Krueger won bronze. The United States came in 8th. Cross-Country Skiing continues tonight.


Curling. In Curling there was the Men’s gold medal match. That game was between Sweden and Great Britain. Sweden would defeat Great Britain to take home gold. The Women’s bronze medal match was the only other game. Sweden defeated Switzerland to win bronze.

In Mixed Doubles, Italy won gold. Norway won silver. Sweden won bronze. USA came in 8th.

In Men’s, Sweden won gold. Great Britain won silver. Canada won bronze. USA came in 4th after winning gold in 2018.

In Women’s, Sweden won bronze. Japan and Sweden will play for gold. USA came in 6th.

Curling will continue with the Women’s gold medal match.

Figure Skating. In Figure Skating they had the Pair Skating – Free Skating. Chinas Wenjing Sui and Cong Han won gold. ROC (Russia) Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov won silver. ROC (Russia) Anastasia Mishina and Aleksandr Galliamov won bronze. The United States came in 6th and 8th. With that Figure Skating at the 2022 Olympics is done. This by far has been the most dramatic event of all of the 2022 Olympic events.


Freestyle Skiing. In Freestyle Skiing there was Men’s Halfpipe Final Runs. New Zealands Nico Porteous won gold. The United States David Wise won silver. He is a local from the Reno/Tahoe area. This is his third straight olympic medal. I may talk about him more in a future post. The United States Alex Ferreira won bronze. With that Freestyle Skiing is finished at the 2022 Olympics.


Ice Hockey. Men’s bronze medal game happened. Sweden Played Slovakia. I will do an in depth post about that later.

Men’s Ice Hockey, Slovakia won Bronze. Finland and ROC (Russia) will play for gold.

Women’s Ice Hockey, Canada won gold. USA won silver. Finland won bronze.

Speed Skating. In Speed Skating there was both the Men’s and Women’s Mass Start. In the Men’s Mass Start Final, Belgiums Bart Swings won gold. Republic of Koreas Jae Won Chung won silver. Republic of Koreas Seung Hoon Lee won bronze. The United States finished 4th. In the Women’s Mass Start Final, Netherlands Irene Schouten won gold. Canadas Ivanie Blondin won silver. Italys Francesca Lollobrigida won bronze. The United States came in 4th and 12th. With that Speed Skating is done at the 2022 Olympics.


Norway still leads with 15 gold medals. Germany is still in 2nd with 11 gold medals. China is now in 3rd with 9 gold medals. The united states is in 4th with 8 gold medals. Canada is still in 11th with 4 gold medals.

Norway still leads the overall with 34 medals. ROC (Russia) is still in 2nd with 31 medals. Canada is in 3rd with 25 medals. The United States is tied for 4th with 24 medals.

The United States has 24 total medals. 8 gold. 9 silver. 7 bronze. Canada has 20 total medals. 4 gold. 8 silver. 13 bronze.

Coming up on the final day of the olympics is Alpine Skiing, Bobsleigh, Cross-Country Skiing, Curling, Ice Hockey and the Closing Ceremony. The Closing Ceremony will be in Sunday, February 20, 2022 at 4am PST with a replay at 8pm PST.
