It’s day three of the 2022 National Hockey League playoffs. Last night did not disappoint. There was a lot of action. There was four first round games ones played. The Pittsburgh Penguins played the New York Rangers. The Washington Capitals played the Florida Panthers. The Nashville Predators took on the Colorado Avalanche. Lastly the Dallas Stars took on the Calgary Flames.
The First game of the night would take all night. Pittsburgh Penguins vs New York Rangers. Game one. In New York. The Rangers took a 1-0 lead after the first period. The penguins would have a big second period where they scored 3 goals. the game was tied 3-3 going into the third period. Late in the third period the Rangers scored to break the tie. Pittsburgh challenged the goal. The goal was waived off due to goalie interference. Of course a lot of people complained about it and the Rangers fans don’t like it. I think it was the right call. What I have seen from the NHL is that if a player runs into the goalie and does not attempt to avoid the goalie, it will usually be called goalie interference on the challenge. Usually it also doesn’t matter if the player was pushed into the goalie, if they don’t attempt to avoid the goalie. If he made an attempt to avoid the goalie then I could seen the goal being allowed. Anyway the game went into overtime. Neither team scored in the first overtime. In the second overtime, the Penguins goalie left the game. The backup was put in. It was his 5th ever NHL game. The penguins finally scored in the third overtime. about 6 minutes into the period. The final score was 4-3 Penguins.

A lot happened in this game. There was a lot of shots. It was a long game. I could see the players visibly tired in the first overtime. Going to three overtimes is basically playing equivalent to two games. I think that this game will effect the outcome of the next game in the series. Fatigue may not show in the first period but will in the third. The team that plays better early and can get a head early will probably win the next game.
Washington Capitals vs Florida Panthers. Game one. In Florida. The game was tied after the first period. The panthers scored the only goal of the second period. It was 2-1 Panthers going into the third period. The Capitals scored three goals in the third period to win the game. The final score was 4-2 Capitals.

Nashville Predators vs Colorado Avalanche. Game one. In Colorado. This game had a lot of intensity to it. Colorado would scored five goals in the first period. It was 5-0 Avalanche after the first period. Both teams scored in the second and third periods. The final score was 7-2 Avalanche. This series is going to get more aggressive as it continues. As of right now it looks like it could be a blowout sweep by the Avalanche.

Dallas Stars vs Calgary Flames. Game one. In Calgary. The flames would score the only goal of the game 5 minutes into the first period on the powerplay. The final score was 1-0 Flames.
