It’s day elven of the 2022 National Hockey League playoffs. Yesterday the Pittsburgh Penguins played the New York Rangers. The Washington Capitals played the Florida Panthers. The Dallas Stars played the Calgary Flames.
Today the Carolina Hurricanes take on the Boston Bruins. The Toronto Maple Leafs take on the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Minnesota Wild take on the St Louis Blues. The Edmonton Oilers take on the LA Kings.
Pittsburgh Penguins vs New York Rangers. Round one. Game five. In New York. The Penguins led the series 3-1 going into the game. With a win the Penguins could advance to round two. The Penguins had a 1-0 lead after the first period. The Penguins would get a 2-0 lead. Then the Rangers scored three unanswered goals to take the lead. The Penguins tied it up before the end of the period. The score was tied 3-3 going into the third period. The Rangers took an early lead in the third period then scored an empty netter goal. The final score was 5-3 Rangers. The series is now 3-2 Penguins. Game six will be tomorrow in Pittsburgh.
The Penguins can still win this series. They have the advantage going back to Pittsburgh. The Rangers are still fighting to keep their season alive. The Rangers with their backs against the wall have to win an away game. I think the Penguins will win the next game.
Washington Capitals vs Florida Panthers. Round one. Game five. In Florida. The series was tied at 2-2 going into the game. The Panthers scored the only goal of the first period on the powerplay. The Panthers would make it 3-0. The Capitals would respond with three goals of their own. The game was tied at 3-3 going into the third period. The Panthers would score the only two goals of the third period. The final score was 5-3 Panthers. The Panthers now have a 3-2 series lead. They can advance to round two with a game six win. Game six will be in Washington tomorrow.
The Panthers now have the advantage. The Capitals have been a challenge for them. I think the Panthers will take the series. Even with the Capitals playoff experience, I don’t think they can win back to back against the Panthers.
Dallas Stars vs Calgary Flames. Round one. Game five. In Calgary. The series was tied at 2-2 going into the game. No one scored in the first period. The Stars took a 1-0 lead after the first period. The Flames scored three unanswered goals in the third to win the game. The final score was 3-1 Flames. The Flames now have a 3-2 series lead. Game six will be in Dallas Tomorrow.
The Flames outshot the Stars. Neither team could get an advantage on the powerplay. Now the Stars have to win back to back games or their season is over.
