It’s day fifteen of the 2022 National Hockey League playoffs. The first round of the playoffs is now over. Yesterday the Pittsburgh Penguins Penguins played the New York Rangers. The Dallas Stars played the Calgary flames to finish off round one.
Pittsburgh Penguins vs New York Rangers. Round one. Game seven. In New York. Winner moves on to round two. Loser gets eliminated. The Rangers scored first. The Penguins tied the game before the end of the first period. The score was 1-1 after the first period. The Penguins took the lead on the powerplay. The Rangers tied it up. The Penguins took the lead again on a short handed goal. The score was 3-2 Penguins going into the third period. The Rangers would score the only goal of the third period which would lead to the game needing overtime. Game seven. Overtime. First team to score wins. The Rangers scored in Overtime on the powerplay. The Rangers won the game 4-3. The Rangers won the series. They will advance to round two.

This series had a lot of ups and downs as a penguins fan. Goaltending issues. Crosby being injured. Blowing a 3-1 series lead. The Penguins had three games to win to win the series. Thats really frustrating. I think what won it for the Rangers is consistency. They knew their best players would be on the ice. They know their starting goalie would be on the ice. I think that is what made the difference for them. I hope the Rangers get smacked by the Hurricanes in four games.
Dallas Stars vs Calgary Flames. Round one. Game seven. In Calgary. Same thing winner moves on, loser goes home. Dallas took a 1-0 lead after scoring 40 seconds into the game. The Flames would tie the game early in the second period. The Stars would take the lead again shortly after that. The Flames would tie the game before the end of the second period. No one scored in the third. Flames scored in overtime to win the game and the series. The Flames will be moving on to round two.

Definitely a close series. Decided in the last game in overtime. The Flames will move on to take on the Oilers. It will be a playoff battle of Alberta which hasn’t happened since the 90’s.
