It’s day sixteen of the 2022 National Hockey League playoffs. The first round of the playoffs is now over. The second round starts today. There were no games yesterday. Miami Ice starts today. Tampa Bay will play Florida. St Louis will play Colorado. St Louis will probably get destroyed. Anyway I am excited.
Colorado Avalanche vs St Louis Blues. The Avalanche won the regular season series with the Blues. The record was 2-1-0 Avalanche. The all-time record since 1995 (when the Quebec Nordiques moved to Denver) is 47-38-13 Avalanche. The Blues are 1-9-0 against the Avalanche in the playoffs. The last playoff series between the Avalanche and Blues was in 2021. The Avalanche swept that series. The Blues got their only playoff game win against the Avalanche back in 2001.
Game one is tonight in Colorado. The Avalanche swept the predators to get here. The Blues beat the Wild to get here. the History of these two teams does not favor the Blues. How dominate the Avalanche were against the Predators is not good for the Blues either. I think the Avalanche are looking at another sweep. I didn’t see anything in the Blues series with the Wild that would make me think they can do any better then the Predators.
Florida Panthers vs Tampa Bay Lightning. Did you know this series is officially called the Governor’s cup? I like Miami Ice better. It is also sometimes called the Battle of Florida. The Panthers won the regular season series. The Panthers had the best record in the league. The record was 2-1-1 Panthers. The last game they played was right before the playoffs on April 24th. The all time since 1993 record is 75-53-10-18 Panthers out of 156 games. The Lightning have won three Stanley Cups and the Panthers have not won a cup yet. The all-time playoff record is 4-2-0 Lightning. They only met for the first time in the playoffs last season. Their last playoff series was in 2021. The Lightning won the series 4-2.
Game one is tonight in Florida. The Lightning beat the Maple leafs to get here. That was probably the best series in round one. The Panthers beat the Capitals to get here. I think it will be a good series. I think both teams have the potential to go all the way. I think round one prepared both teams for the challenges ahead. It should be a good series that could go to seven games.
The Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, New York Rangers, St Louis Blues, and Tampa Bay Lightning have advanced to the second round.
The Colorado Avalanche will play the St Louis Blues. The Florida Panthers will play the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Edmonton Oilers will play the Calgary Flames. The Carolina Hurricanes will play the New York Rangers.
The Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars, LA Kings, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Washington Capitals have been eliminated in the first round.
Here are the upcoming games:
I think Florida will beat Tampa Bay in 6 or 7 games. I think Colorado will sweep the St Louis.
