Croatia vs Brazil
The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 resumed today with the quarter-finals. In the first match of the quarter-finals, Croatia played Brazil. Croatia beat Japan in the round of 16 to get here. Brazil destroyed South Korea in the round of 16 to reach the quarter-finals. After ninety minutes the score was at a 0-0 draw. The game would go into extra time. Brazil would score in the first half of extra time. Croatia would score in the second half of extra time. The score would be at a 1-1 draw after extra time. Croatia would be Brazil on penalties 4-2. Brazil is now out in a huge upset. Croatia will be moving on to the semi-finals. They play the winner of the Netherlands vs Argentina match. Brazil didn’t carry over the power they showed in their last match. Credit to Croatias defense for winning the game for them.
Netherlands vs Argentina
In the second match of the day the Netherlands played Argentina. The Netherlands beat the United States in the round of 16. Argentina beat Australia to advance to the quarter-finals. Argentina would score in the 35′ minute. They took a 1-0 lead into the second half. They added to their lead with a penalty kick in the 73′ minute. At that point the game looked out of the Netherlands reach. The Netherlands would cut the lead in half with a goal in the 83′ minute. Then at the very end of added time the Netherlands tied the game. Neither team would score in extra time. The Netherlands would get a red card towards the end of extra time. The score was 2-2 and the game needed to a penalty shootout to decide a winner. Argentina would win 3-4 on penalties.
It was a huge comeback effort by the Netherlands after I think a lot of people assumed the game was over. There were two incredible games today. The Netherlands did put up a fight. Argentina just was able to do better on penalties. Argentina will now move on to the semi-finals. Lionel Messi is now one game away from reaching the world cup final. The Netherlands are headed home. Argentina will play Croatia in the semi-finals. The winner will move on to the world cup final.
Argentina and the Netherlands have advanced to the semi-finals. The other semi-final matchup will be set after tomorrow’s matches.
Morocco vs Portugal. Morocco had an upset win to get here. Portugal has been dominating. Portugal are highly favored to win but Spain was too. Does Morocco have any tricks up their sleeves or will Portugal continue to dominate.
England vs France. A classic matchup. It should be a close game. It should be a very good game to watch. I think France will take it. I think they have been playing better overall in the world cup.
The Netherlands won Group A. England won Group B. Argentina won Group C. France won Group D. Japan won Group E. Morocco won Group F. Brazil won Group G. Portugal won Group H.
The Netherlands, Senegal, England, the United States, Argentina, Poland, France, Australia, Japan, Spain, Morocco, Croatia, Brazil, Switzerland, Portugal, and South Korea have advanced to the elimination stage.
Ecuador, Qatar, Iran, Wales, Germany, Costa Rica, Belgium, Canada, Cameroon, Serbia, Uruguay, and Ghana were all eliminated in the group stage.
The United States, Australia, Poland, Senegal, Japan, South Korea, Spain, and Switzerland were eliminated in the round of 16.
The Netherlands and Brazil have been eliminated in the quarter-finals.
Argentina and Croatia have advanced to the semi-finals.
