Yesterday was the ninth day of Conceptober. Yesterdays prompt was to create a Reverse Retro jersey concept. Reverse Retro jersey are recolored or redesigned versions of old National Hockey League jerseys. For the 2021 season every NHL team got a Reverse Retro jersey. For the 2022/23 season all teams got new Reverse Retro jerseys. Some teams have even stuck with their Reverse Retro jerseys as alternate jerseys. I liked the Reverse Retros and I think it is sad to see them gone now. With Fanatics taking over as the new Jersey manufacturer for the NHL next season, the NHL Reverse Retros might be remembered as one of the best parts of the best NHL jersey era.
Again I used the Wheel of Names to pick a team for this concept. Excluded were the teams I already did concepts for during Conceptober. Those teams are the Florida Panthers, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Calgary Flames, the Vancouver Canucks, the New York Islanders, the Winnipeg Jets, and the Ottawa Senators. The winner ended up being the San Jose Sharks.
The San Jose Sharks 2021 Reverse Retro was a grey version of their 1998-2007 uniforms. The Sharks 2022/23 Reverse Retro was a tribute to the California Golden Seals. For this concept I created a black version of their 1991-1997 uniforms which they did bring back in 2015 and 2020. On the front is their original primary logo. On the shoulders is their original shark fin logo.
