Like I said in my last four posts, I am super behind on Conceptober. The prompt on the 23rd was to create an all-star jersey concept. Personally I am a fan of all-star games. I know a lot of people are not and can be very vocal about their distaste for them. In the National Hockey League the general idea amongst fans is that the all-star game was good at some point but is bad now. A lot of people call it boring. I think if it was more about what the fans want and not about the NHL coming up with new wacky games it would work better. I think a longer IIHF stye tournament would be better. Th fan voting needs to be better too. Let the fans pick who they want. It doesn’t have to be the same people for ten years.
I stuck with the NHL to keep this concept simple. The 2024 NHL all-star game will be in Toronto. The idea I came up with was two jerseys for each conference. The Eastern Conference would have red jerseys to match the conference logos. The Western Conference would have blue jerseys to match the conference logos. The reason for four jerseys is because their would be one team per division. The design of the jerseys is based on the 2016 NBA all-star jerseys. That game was also in Toronto. On the front of all the jerseys is the NHL logo with a blue or red outline depending on the conference. On the shoulders is the all-star game logo and the team logo. The team logo would be for that players team meaning their would be sixteen versions of each jersey.
For this concept the skills competition would be on a Friday night. The all-star tournament would be on Saturday. The tournament would be a 3 on 3 tournament with 20 minute games. Each game would have two ten minute halves. There would be a group stage round robin. Each team would play each other once. The team that won the group stage would move on to the final. The second and third place team would play in a semifinal. The winner of that would face the group stage winner in the final. The loser of the semifinal game would play the last place team in the group stage for third place.
Other all-star week festivities would also include, a CHL prospects game, a ECHL prospects game, a AHL prospects game, a mascot game, a classic all-star game where the all-stars play the home team, NHL alumni game, celebrity game, a rookie game, and a college showcase game.
