Reno Pond Hockey played the Reno Fire Hosers D for their RIAL Winter 2023-24 D-League season opener. The game took place on Wednesday, December, 13th, 2023 at 10:30PM. The game was at Reno Ice.

This was the first game of the season for Reno Pond Hockey. Reno Pond Hockey had not played a game since August. Only about eight players returned to Reno Pond Hockey from last season. It is basically a new team which is becoming a yearly tradition.

The Reno Fire Hosers D were coming off of a 2-10 loss to Bangerang to open up the season. They are were in seventh place with a record of 0-1-0.

Reno Pond Hockey’s all-time record against the Reno Fire Hosers D was 1-1-0. The last game between Reno Pond Hockey and the Reno Fire Hosers D was on Sun. Jun. 18th, 2023. Reno Pond Hockey lost that game 1-7.

Reno Pond Hockey scored the games opening goal with 14:34 left in the first period. The goal was scored by #14 Drew Miller. It was assisted by #25 Ethan Crisp. Reno Pond Hockey added to their lead with 10:38 left in the first period. That goal was scored by Ian Barton. It was assisted by #28 Zac Seidemann (C) and #77 Mark Rogers. The first period ended with a 2-0 Reno Pond Hockey lead.

#6 Merritt Dunlap would leave the game in the first period and not return. #33 Scott Wrye would also not return for the second period. The Reno Fire Hosers D scored with 14:06 left in the second period to get on the board. The Reno Fire Hosers D tied the game with 12:44 left in the second period. The Reno Fire Hosers D took the lead with a goal just over a minute after tying the game. The Reno Fire Hosers D took a two goal lead with 8:01 left in the second period. The Reno Fire Hosers D added to their lead with 2:54 left in the second period. The score was 2-5 Reno Fire Hosers D going into the third period.

Reno Pond Hockey scored their third goal with 14:46 left in the game. The goal was scored by Greg Scott and was unassisted. Reno Pond Hockey took the only penalty of the game with 8:02 left in the game. #15 Brad Wunderlich got the minor penalty for high sticking. Reno Pond Hockey got back within one goal of tying the game with their fourth goal. #8 Luke Rippee scored with 3:10 left in the game. The goal was assisted by #75 Kirill Solovykh and #00 Tommy Bartold. The final score was 5-4 Reno Fire Hosers D.

Reno Pond Hockey got off to a strong start in the first period. They couldn’t hold on in the second period. The second period was like a complete breakdown. They managed to crawl back in the third period but it just was not enough. Overall it was a good effort and good game. Considering most of the players are trying to learn a new system and they have not played together before, they did alright. There is a lot of room for growth. There was also a lot of positive take aways from this game. This is the sixth season opener Reno Pond Hockey has lost in eight seasons.

Reno Pond Hockey’s first goal of the season was scored by #14 Drew Miller. It was assisted by #25 Ethan Crisp. The second goal was scored by Ian Barton. It was assisted by #25 Zac Seidemann (C) and #77 Mark Rogers. #32 Greg Scott scored the third goal. It was unassisted. #8 Luke Rippee scored the fourth goal. It was assisted by #75 Kirill Solovykh and #00 Tommy Bartold.

The only penalty of the game was a minor penalty given to #15 Brad Wunderlich.
