The Professional Women’s Hockey League finished up their first ever season on Wednesday. The PWHL is made up of six teams. Three teams are from the United States and three teams are from Canada. The unique thing about this women’s hockey league is that they are working with the National Hockey League. The full extent that the two leagues are working together is still not full known. The PWHL still does not have names or logos for any of their teams. The league is off to a good start after setting a few women’s sports attendance records. The best part of this league is that all of the games are free to watch on YouTube. They have my attention.

The PWHL had all six of their teams play in twenty four regular season games. The PWHL regular season started on January 1st, 2024. The PWHL was initially not going to have a season this year. They were going to give the league more time to prepare with it starting in 2024-25. The players complained that they didn’t want to take a year off and so the season happened less than six months after the league was announced. They played twenty four games this season. I think that will be expanded for next season. PWHL Toronto came in first place during the regular season.

The PWHL is the best women’s sports league right now. It is yet to be seen if the success will continue. I am hoping that this league is successful. So far it has been. I am really interested in what the future holds for the team brands. Hopefully we will be getting those at the PWHL draft or before next season.
