The Games of the XXXIII Olympiad have started. Day one just had soccer and rugby sevens. Day two will see the start of the archery events. I am excited for it. Archery is a big deal in my family and I am getting dragged along for the ride. Of course it is a ride I am happy to be on. Archery has been in the Olympics since every time since 1972. There was a large gap without it but the Olympics are not the same without it. The Olympics without archery is like a burger without fries. Sure it’s still a burger but at what cost. Archery at Paris 2024 will run from July 25th through August 4th. There will be five archery events. 128 athletes from 53 nations will be competing in those events.

I talked about all of the Paris 2024 venues in an earlier post. The Les Invalides, located in Paris, will host the archery events. A temporary archery stadium has been built on the grounds for Paris 2024. The location is notable for housing the tomb of Napoleon. The temporary stadium will have a capacity of 8,000.

There will be five archery events at Paris 2024. There will be men’s individual, men’s team, women’s individual, women’s team, and mixed team. All events at Paris 2024 are Olympic recurve events. The ranking round will determine all of the archers and team seeding. After ranking each event is head to head single elimination. In the individual events, matchups are seeded top seed vs bottom seed. Each round is a best of five sets. a Set is shooting three arrows. It is not about who has the higher overall score but who has the higher score each set. In the team events the top four ranked teams get a bye into the quarterfinals. The remaining teams play for the remaining quarterfinal spots. The sets go up to six arrows for the team events with only four sets instead of five. The mixed teams event is the same as all of the other team events but the seeding and bracket change. Mixed teams consists of the too. sixteen teams instead of twelve teams. They all compete in a single elimination sixteen team bracket.

Archery at the 2024 Summer Olympics will take place from July 25th to August 4th. Qualifying (ranking rounds) are on July 25th. July 28th is the women’s team finals. That will include the round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and medal matches. July 29th are the men’s team finals. That will include the round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and medal matches.
