
The United States took on Australia for their third match of Paris 2024. It was their final match of the group stage. The United states was coming off of a 4-1 victory over Germany. The United States came into this match in second place in Group B. Australia was coming off of a 6-5 win over Zambia. Australia were third in Group B coming into this match. Both teams were tied on matches played. The United States had the better record and goal differential.


The United States were already advancing to the knockout stage heading into this match. This is a mostly meaningless game for the United States. They were going to win Group A with a win or draw. Australia were trying to stay alive. They will needed a win or draw to stay alive. They also needed Germany to lose to Zambia. The United States were looking to continue their dominance in this game. Australia lost to Germany 3-0. The United States beat Germany 4-1. The United States can put up five goals on Australia.

Samantha Coffey of the United states got a yellow card in the 4′ minute. The United states took the lead in the 43′ minute. Trinity Rodman scored the goal. Sophia Smith got the assist. The ball was put into the box on a corner kick. Smith put it towards the net. Rodman put it in the net.
In the 31′ minute, the United States took a two goal lead. Kevin Paredes scored the goal. Paxten Aaronson got the assist. Aaronson got the ball through the Guinea back line. Paredes got the ball. He ran into the box. The keeper came out to challenge for the ball. Paredes kicked it into the back of the net.
The score was 1-0 United States at halftime.

In the 67′ minute, Korbin Albert of the United States received a yellow card. In the 77′ minute, the United States took a two goal lead. Korbin Albert score the unassisted goal. She took a shot from outside of the top of the box. It went to the left of the keeper and in. Keeper did get her hand on it but it still went in.
In the 90’+1 minute, Australia scored. Alanna Kennedy scored the goal. Michelle Heyman got the assist. The final score was 2-1 United States.

The United States continued their dominance. They have won all three of their group stage matches. This is the first time they have swept the group stage since 2012. The United States have also now set the record for most goal scored in the group stage of the women’s soccer tournament at the Olympics. Now it is onto the knockout stage.

The United States controlled 67% of the possession. The United States outshot Australia twenty to six. The United States beat Australia in almost every stat.




The United States won Group B. Germany came in second in Group B. Australia came in third in Group B. Zambia came in fourth in Group B. The United States and Germany clinched spots to advance to the knockout stage. Australia are currently in a sport to advance but have to wait on results. Zambia have been eliminated in the group stage.

The United States take on Japan in the quarterfinals. If the United States win that game, they will end up at least in the bronze medal match. That game will be on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024. Kick off is scheduled for 6:00 am. That game will be at Parc des Princes in Paris, France.
