On October 4th the Tahoe Knight Monsters teased that they were painting the ice. This is typical for the season preparations. What no one knew is what they would reveal next. After revealing their training camp roster, they revolved what is the most unique element to any ice rink the ECHL this season. They revealed that part of the ice would look like roulette wheels. This was done in partnership with Harris Lake Tahoe. The announcement surprised everyone. It took the hockey world by storm. Everyone is talking about it. Some people love it. Some people hate it. Either way their talking about it. It was a brilliant move by the team to get everyone talking about them. I like it and can’t wait to see it in action live. I would love to seen an intermission game made out of it. Like someone tries to land on the right number to win a prize. I would also love to see a player incorporate the roulette wheel into a goal celebration.
The rest of the ice looks amazing too. At center ice is the Tahoe Knight Monsters primary logo. The Roulette wheel is on two different faceoff circles. The shield eye logo is on the ice below the blue line. We have also gotten our first look at the inaugural season logo. The logo is a rectangle with mountains. It says “inaugural season” with 24 25 and the team name in it. The logo is in the team colors. I hope that this logo makes its way onto merch. I love what they did with the ice. They made it unique. They made it eye catching. They brought attention to the team. It is crazy to me how one element on the ice has turned it into the best rink in the ECHL. I am surprised the Las Vegas Wranglers never had anything like this. This could be a game changer for the ECHL. The Tahoe Knight Monsters have set the bar. Now who will bring unique elements like this to their ice next?
