
The Tahoe Knight Monsters took on the Kansas City Mavericks on Friday. Puck drop was at 7:30 PM. The game was at the Tahoe Blue Event Center. It was the twelfth game of the season. The Tahoe Knight Monsters were coming off of a 4-1 victory to the Kansas City Mavericks. The Tahoe Knight Monsters had a record of 6-3-2. The Knight Monsters were in 14th place in the ECHL. The Knight Monsters were 7th in the Western Conference and 4th in the Mountain Division. The Kansas City Mavericks are the ECHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken. The Mavericks played thirteen games. The Mavericks were coming off of a 1-4 loss to the Tahoe Knight Monsters. The Mavericks had a record of 8-4-1. The Mavericks were in 9th place in the ECHL. The Mavericks were in 4th place in the Western Conference and 2nd place in the Mountain Division.

The Kansas City Mavericks had played two more games. The Mavericks had two more wins. The Mavericks had the better points percentage. The Mavericks had scored ten more goals. The Mavericks had allowed six more goals. The Mavericks had the better goal differential. The Mavericks had three more points. The Tahoe Knight Monsters had 120 penalty minutes. The Kansas City Mavericks had 229 penalty minutes. The Knight Monsters had lost four of their top scorers due to call ups from the Henderson Silver Knights leading into this game. Bear Hughes and Sloan Stanick were the latest call ups. Would the Tahoe Knight Monsters win again? Would call ups cripple the Knight Monsters? How would the Kansas City Mavericks respond after Wednesdays loss?

#30 Jordan Papirny was in net for the Tahoe Knight Monsters. This was his fourth start of the season for the Tahoe Knight Monsters. On Thursday, forward Bear Hughes and forward Sloan Stanick were called up by the Henderson Silver Knights. On Friday, The Tahoe Knight Monsters signed forward C.J. Hayes. Prior to joining the Knight Monsters Hayes played eight games in the SPHL this season with the Pensacola Ice Flyers. Forward Adam Robbins and defender Elijah Vilio were activated from reserve. Defender Daniil Chayka was placed on reserve. #1 Jack LaFontaine got the start in net for the Kansas City Mavericks. This was his sixth start of the season for the Mavericks. On Friday, the Mavericks activated forward Daniel Amesbury and defender Jay Powell. The Mavericks placed defender Josh Thrower, forward Cam Morrison, and defender Jack McLaughlin on reserve.


Six minutes into the game, the Tahoe Knight Monsters opened up the scoring. #9 Troy Loggins got the first goal of the game. His goal was assisted by #30 Jordan Papirny. Loggins skated the puck out of the defensive zone. He took it all the way to the offensive zone. He cut through the middle and scored. The Kansas City Mavericks defenders kept backing up leaving him with time and space to score.
Eight minutes into the game, the Knight Monsters took a two goal lead with a goal from #14 Patrick Newell. His goal was assisted by #28 Logan Nelson and #49 Artur Cholach. Nelson took the puck behind the net in the offensive zone. He was able to get the puck into the slot. Newell took a one timer that found the back of the net.
Thirty two seconds after the Knight Monsters took a two goal lead, #6 Justin MacPherson of the Mavericks received a penalty for hooking. On the first play of the powerplay, the Knight Monsters scored. #19 Luke Adam scored the goal. His goal was assisted by #96 Brennan Kapcheck and #28 Logan Nelson. The Knight Monsters won the faceoff to the left of the goalie. The puck was passed back to Kapcheck at the point. He passed the puck to Adam at the other point. Adam skated in and took a shot from the right faceoff dot. His shot went in. This goal gave the Knight Monsters a three goal lead.
Eleven minutes into the game, #8 Ryan Orgel of the Knight Monsters received a penalty for interference. #18 Damien Giroux scored for the Mavericks on the powerplay. His goal was assisted by #26 Bradley Schoonbaert and #29 Pascal Laberge. Giroux was left open by the net and was able to score. The Knight Monsters still had a two goal lead.
With under three minutes left in the first period, #15 Jake McGrew scored for the Knight Monsters. His goal was assisted by #96 Brennan Kapcheck and #22 Cal Kiefiuk. The Knight Monsters were cycling the puck in the offensive zone. Kapcheck took a shot from the point. McGrew tipped the puck in front of the net.
The score was 4-1 Tahoe Knight Monsters after the first period.

A minute into the second period, #17 Jackson Berezowski of the Kansas City Mavericks received a penalty for tripping. Six minutes into the second period, #8 Luke Loheit of the Mavericks received a penalty for interference. Eight minutes into the second period, #19 Luke Adam of the Tahoe Knight Monsters received a penalty for high-sticking. Eleven minutes into the second period, #8 Luke Loheit scored for the Mavericks. His goal was assisted by #14 Daniel Amesbury and #19 Nolan Sullivan. Loheit got the puck in the slot and scored. It was a sloppy play by the Knight Monsters. They had three players below the goal line in the defensive zone and no one in position to guard the middle of the zone. The Knight Monsters still had a two goal lead after this goal.
Fifteen minutes into the second period, #26 Nate Kallen of the Knight Monsters received a penalty for cross-checking. The score was 4-2 Tahoe Knight Monsters going into the third period.

Three minutes into the third period, #22 Casey Carreau scored for the Kansas City Mavericks. His goal was assisted by #26 Bradley Schoonbaert and #19 Nolan Sullivan. Sullivan took a shot from inside of the crease. The rebound went into the slot where Carreau was able to take a shot and score. The Tahoe Knight Monsters still had a one goal lead.
Four minutes into the third period, #19 Luke Adam of the Knight Monsters received a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and #28 Cade Borchardt of the Mavericks received a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. On the 4-on-4 #26 Bradley Schoonbaert scored for the Mavericks to tie the game. His goal was assisted by #23 David Noel. Schoonbaert had time and space in front of the net and scored.
Seven minutes into the third period, #44 C.J. Hayes scored to retake the lead for the Knight Monsters. His goal was assisted by #8 Ryan Orgel and #3 Adam Pitters. Hayes came down the wing. His initial shot was saved. Pitters wacked at the rebound. Hayes would put the rebound into the back of the net.
Thirteen minutes into the third period, #23 David Noel of the Mavericks received a penalty for tripping. With under three minutes left in the game, the Mavericks pulled their goalie. With the extra attacker the Mavericks were able to tie the game with a goal from #28 Cade Borchardt. His goal was assisted by #23 David Noel and #15 Marcus Crawford.
With under a minute to go in the game, #26 Nate Kallen of the Knight Monsters received a penalty for high-sticking. The score was still tied at 5-5 after the third period. The game went into overtime.

Three minutes into overtime, #1 Jack LaFontaine of the Kansas City Mavericks had to be helped off the ice after a collision. EMTs did go into the locker room area but I did not see them come out. #33 Victor Ostman was put in net. On the next play, #28 Logan Nelson scored the game winning goal for the Tahoe Knight Monsters. His goal was assisted by #14 Patrick Newell. On the rush Nelson crashed the net and was able to get the puck around the goalie to score.
The final score was 6-5 Tahoe Knight Monsters.

The Tahoe Knight Monsters scored four goals on six shots in the first period. That was impressive. The defense was not there to hold the lead for the rest of the game. Then they won the game in the worst way. They scored on a cold goalie after the other goalie was taken off the ice. They had a strong start. They found a way to win. It was not a strong performance by the Knight Monsters.

The Kansas City Mavericks had ten more shots. The Tahoe Knight Monsters had the better shot percentage. Both teams had five penalty minutes. #30 Jordan Papirny saved 31 shots for a 86% save percentage for the Knight Monsters. #1 Jack LaFontaine saved 21 shots for a 77% save percentage for the Mavericks. #33 Victor Ostman saved 0 shots for a 0% save percentage for the Mavericks.




The Tahoe Knight Monsters now have a record of 7-3-2 with 16 points in 12 games. The Knight Monsters are in 12th place in ECHL. They are in 6th place in the ECHL Western Conference. They are in 4th place in the ECHL Western Conference Mountain Division. They are in a playoff spot. They are three points away from the top spot in the division. They have the 2nd highest points percentage in the division.


The Tahoe Knight Monsters will take on the Kansas City Mavericks for game thirteen on Saturday, November 23rd. It will be a home game. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM. This is another divisional game. This will be the second of two cancer awareness nights.
